Stage 4: Reflection

1. How the students responded to the lesson as planned and taught:

The students responded well to the lesson. They were very excited about the kahoot. At times they got a little

too noisy and excited and so other students couldn’t hear the questions being read out loud. We had to have a

talk about not shouting out and listening. After this I think the kahoot went really well. Students were very

engaged and excited. Also, when students got questions wrong, it gave a good opportunity to discuss that

question.

2. Specific strengths of the lesson plan and delivery:

I think creating the kahoot was definitely the strength of the lesson. I spent a good amount of time creating

questions for this kahoot and I think it definitely helped the students review. They were very excited. They

also were very supportive of one another and cheering each other on. I think having them use their real names

instead of nicknames was also quite helpful. The leaderboard only shows the top 5 so nobody needed to feel

bad about where they were in the kahoot. At the end we cheered for the winner and those few people in the

top really felt great and it showed. This was really nice to see. It was also helpful for me to see where kids

were at.

3. Specific weaknesses in the lesson plan and delivery:

At times students did get overly excited and I think this took away from other students learning. I should have

been clear about expectations from the beginning so that the kahoot ran more smoothly. I think I also should

have been clear that it is okay if you get the answers wrong and that we should be cheering each other on.

Students still did cheer each other on but I think I should have been clear that we are learning and reviewing,

and it is totally okay if you choose the wrong answer.

4. What must be addressed to improve this plan?

If I were to teach this lesson again or do another kahoot I would structure things a little differently. I always

forget that little reminders need to be made constantly for grade 3’s and I don’t think this occurred to me

since I haven’t done a kahoot personally since high school. I would be clear with behaviour expectations

before beginning, reminding students not to shout out the answer, and to be listening when I am reading the

question and options out loud. I would also give reminders to cheer each other on and that it is totally okay if

you get answers wrong. This is part of the learning process and why we are doing a review! Some of these

reminders I think would have helped the kahoot run a little smoother. I would have also maybe had students

wait to click the answer until I was done reading the question and the answers so that everyone had a fair

chance. I think next time I would also go up to the board and point to each answer I was reading to help some

of those student who struggle a bit more with reading.

5. How I have grown from this teaching experience:

I really enjoyed doing the kahoot with the kids! I think it was really effective and also fun for them. I would

love to do some more kahoots in the future, and just make sure I am clear with expectations from the

beginning.
