"It was a big thing when we started at 50 kids and $50. Now we're° at 75 kids°and $100 for
°
every
30 33 35
kid," said Public Safety Director Emmett Township Mike Olson.

Kids accompanied by o cers from various Calhoun County agencies shopped with kids.

"What I like about this is it's not just one agency doing it we all come together as one," said
Michigan State Police Community Service Trooper Kristi Angelo.

Angelo and Olson said it's their favorite event of the year.

"My favorite part is seeing the kids smile and also seeing the o cers smile and meeting new
kids every year. I have kids that are in high school now and they remember me from Shop with
a Cop when they were this age," Angelo said.

Kids get to pick out presents for their loved ones after a friendly reminder to pick out presents
for themselves rst.

"The kids have a strong feeling about taking care of brothers, sisters, moms and dads so it's
really rewarding to see the value that comes out of these kids," said Olson.

The Shop With a Cop event is more than just breakfast, lunch and shopping with o cers
though.

"My heart has always been into community outreach to children so they're not afraid of our
uniform. We're here to help them so I think it helps build those bridges to see the positive side
of everything," said Angelo.

"I really hope it re ects is the kids know we're truly partners with them. They're going to be our
future. We want to set that image in place we're all together," Olson said.

The o cers said it's just a small way they can give back, but it wouldn't be possible without the
help of the community. To learn more about Calhoun County's Shop With a Cop visit their
