Container Selection
This container was selected by Braid & Maersk, because both parties agreed it would normally never
be considered for Flexitank shipment, as the critical area of the containers side panels had following
damages:

• Panels excessively bowed outwards (at worst 33mm)

• Sharp dents to both inbound & outbound corrugations.

• Evidence that panel had been previously welded due to cracks

• Poor previous straightening

Classification: Internal
Container Selection
This is the critical area when selecting Containers for
Flexitank shipments

Test Procedure-Results

Installed post measured from the bottom at these

intervals, deemed critical heights:
• This was done so that Pre & Post
• 600mm • 1200mm • 1700mm measurements could be taken at
the same predetermined points
in order to measure (if any)
deflection occurring between
panel & installed post.

• Container prepared & installed with Flexitank as per normal

Flexitank filled with 24,000 litres of water

Two Test Performed with fully loaded flexitank- Drive Test & Lift Test
Driving Test
• Driver was instructed to first drive in straighten line for approx. 40m & then abruptly
apply brakes. This was done 2 times. Panels as expected flexed, however returned to
original profile-did not bow out.
• Truck was then driven through parts of depot & instructed at various times to again abruptly apply
brakes, the fastest was at approx. 25km. Truck also has to initiate some sharp turns at lows
speeds. Altogether this was performed 3 times. Again panels flexed however did not distort.
• The Drive test did not result in any noticeable visual
bowing out of panels.

Lift Test
• Container was lifted to a height of approx.
1.5m & lowered heavily onto ground. This
was repeated 8 times
• Once again panels flexed & returned
to original position.
