Annotated Bibliography

Bright, S., 2013. Home Truths: Photography And Motherhood. London: Published in

association with the Photographer's Gallery, the Foundling Museum, and the

Museum of Contemporary Photography at Columbia College, Chicago.

This reference has been very useful within my work, I read a lot of this book and it

contained important information on a woman’s identity and motherhood, it is also

where I got some of my images from that I was able to analyse for a main part in my

research.

Sally Mann. 2020. Family Pictures — Sally Mann. [online] Available at:

<https://www.sallymann.com/new-gallery-1> [Accessed 14 December 2020].

This source was used for an image in the research paper, the image is one of Sally

Mann’s, I had looked through her work and decided on one image in particular that

help within my research into bonding.

Wright, K., 2015. Being A Mom Doesn't Define Me. [online] Good Housekeeping.

Available at: <https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/life/parenting/a33939/dont-

define-myself-as-a-mom/> [Accessed 16 December 2020].

This piece was used to explain some of the effects of identity loss and how some

Mother’s aren’t happy with this new found identity of being called a Mother first

before anything else, this proved some of my points in my own research.

Miller, T. (2007) ‘“Is This What Motherhood is All About?”: Weaving Experiences and

Discourse through Transition to First-Time Motherhood’, Gender & Society, 21(3),

pp. 337–358. doi: 10.1177/0891243207300561.

This article explained the transition into motherhood and how it wasn’t quite what

they had expected it to be, it raised issues on bonding and how Mother’s felt they

were meant to know what their baby needed but actually it took some time for them

to get to know their child. This was important in my research as it discussed how

bonding can affect identity.

Mercer, R., 2004. Shibboleth Authentication Request. [online] Sigmapubs-

onlinelibrary-wiley-com.plymouth.idm.oclc.org. Available at: <https://sigmapubs-

onlinelibrary-wiley-com.plymouth.idm.oclc.org/doi/full/10.1111/j.1547-

5069.2004.04042.x> [Accessed 16 December 2020].

This reading spoke about the roles a Mother plays, how the Mother changes roles to

fit everyone else in the family and was important in my paper because it connected

to some of my own work with subject a as she felt she had to switch her role at times

to keep everyone happy.

Bassin, D., 1994. Representations Of Motherhood. yale, pp.147-149.

This book contained many essays that I chose from where it had shown relevance to

my own work where the Mother was spoke about as a subject which connected my

thoughts on the loss of identity.
