Early Kick Detection System

KDS Sensors and software for reliable detection of influx and losses while drilling, circulating and tripping.

INTEQ can offer electromagnetic flowmeters (EMF) for flow-out and, if required, pressure-rated flow-in to
provide high-accuracy ∆flow . The exact style and model of flowmeter will be dependent on physical
conditions and limitations of installation at each rigsite, as well as expected mud type. In exceptional
circumstances, INTEQ can provide other flowmeter methodologies, such as J-meters. INTEQ’s
technicians will work with RIL and rig contractor personnel to provide the most appropriate  fit-for-purpose
solution.
All INTEQ-provided high-accuracy flowmeters work seamlessly with INTEQ’s Advantage TM surface
system,
Related to kick-detection, INTEQ’s Advantage TM integrated surface system includes an innovative
‘flowback’ monitoring application which tracks the history of consecutive pumps-off incidents and the
associated fluctuations in pit levels. On large rigs typically involved in deepwater operations, the fluid
circulatory system tends to be substantial, resulting in considerable flowback from the surface piping to
the active pit system when pumps are turned off. This ‘flowback’ should remain relatively constant each
time - any positive or negative variation would be indicative of a change in wellbore gain/loss. This may
represent fluid exchange with the formation, or may be due to wellbore ballooning or ‘breathing’. The
flowback monitor allows the Data Engineer to easily cross-reference successive flowbacks and quickly
spot a divergence from expected trend; the system also has user-configurable alarms for early warning.
