Post Demonstration Literacy Activity

1. There are eleven spelling/grammatical errors in the passage

below. Identify all eleven errors and rewrite this passage with
corrections.

Energy stored in an object or substance is known as potential energy.

Chemical potential energy is the energy stored in the chemical bonds of
a substance. Substances such as wood petrol and flour all have large
amounts of chemical potential energy. gravitational potential energy is
another form of stored energy. If your at the top of a hill you will have
more gravitational potential energy than your freind at the bottom of the
hill. Well investigate other forms of potential energy in another lesson.
In todays demonstration we placed a burning candle in a tin We
then placed a teaspoon of flower in the tin just in front of a small hole
with a straw inserted. Mr Cooper then placed the lid on the tin and
quickly blue into the straw. This caused the flour to disperse inside the
can. The candle flame ignited the flour causing the chemical potential
energy to be converted into heat light and sound. in line with the law of
conservation of energy, no energy was created or destroyed, but was
simply converted from one form of energy to another.

Passage Answer Key

Energy stored in an object or substance is known as potential energy.

Chemical potential energy is the energy stored in the chemical bonds of
a substance. Substances such as wood, petrol and flour all have large
amounts f chemical potential energy. Gravitational potential energy is
another form of stored energy. If you’re at the top of a hill you will have
more gravitational potential energy than your friend at the bottom of the
hill. We’ll investigate other forms of potential energy in another lesson.
In today’s demonstration we placed a burning candle in a tin. We
then placed a teaspoon of flour in the tin just in front of a small hole with
a straw inserted. Mr Cooper then placed the lid on the tin and quickly
blew into the straw. This caused the flour to disperse inside the can. The
candle flame ignited the flour causing the chemical potential energy to
be converted into heat, light and sound. In line with the law of
conservation of energy, no energy was created or destroyed, but was
simply converted from one form of energy to another.
