VAASTU -SHASTRA

SEMINAR PRESENTATION

INTRODUCTION

Vaastu means dwelling of Humans and Gods in the original Sanskrit literature.
• Many factors govern the life of a human being his fate, Karma and surroundings.
• BUT VAASTU CAN MAKE SWEET THINGS SWEETER AND BITTER LESS BITTER.

If construction is not according to the principles of “VAASTU” then thinking and action of the
people dwelling or working in these places is not harmonious and evolutionary; leading to
disorder & illness.

Building a house in ancient India was not only a house-craft but also a sacred ceremony
and the house was considered a living organism. The spirit of the house was called the
Vaastu Purusha and different cardinal directions and sectors were assigned to different Gods like
Brahma, Ishwara, Agni, Varun, Wind, Yam and Demon, since the waves flowing in a particular
direction have a specific influence.
FOR MASTER BEDROOM
• The master bedroom should always be located in the Southwest part of the house
as Southwest represents the element Earth which implies the heaviness, which
makes it as the ideal place for the master of the house.

• This is not at all suitable for children room, guest room, servant room or any
other room.

• A great deal of attention should be paid to bedrooms in a house. One should


sleep with head towards South, East or West and never in north

• There should not be any beam crossing over the bed. If it exists, proper
rectification should be done immediately otherwise the health will be affected
FOR KIDS BEDROOM
• West direction is ideal for children room and must be place there.

• Keep the bed in South-west portion of room and let your child sleep with head
towards South or East direction for peace of mind.

• Door of children room should not directly face the bed.

• South-west direction is best for placing furniture while avoid any kind of furnishing
in middle or centre of the room which creates obstruction

• Keep all the furnishing 3” away from the wall.

• Avoid recruiting TV, computer/laptop in children room as they effect child


concentration.
FOR PUJA ROOM
• The pooja room should always be situated in the North, East or
the Northeast side of the house.

• One should face towards East/North while worshipping.

• Ideally there should be no idols in the worship room. But if one wish to keep, the
height of the idol should not be more than 9"and less than 2".

• While worshipping, the legs of the idol should be at the chest level of the person
worshipping depending on the position, whether standing or sitting.

• Nothing should be stored above the cabinet or slab here the God's idol is placed.

• A Pooja room should never be made in a bedroom or on a wall adjacent to


the bathroom wall.
FOR KITCHEN

• Element Fire governs in the direction South-east, so this portion of house ideal for locating kitchen.
However, if choosing alternative then North-west part could be taken for constructing kitchen but
avoid making kitchen in any other direction.
• Cooking gas or stove should be placed at South-east in such a way that while cooking the person
face East.
• Place water sink in the North-east with the maximum distance from cooking gasThe sink should be in
the Northeast corner of the kitchen.
• The sink should be in the Northeast corner of the kitchen.
• The cylinder should be placed in the Southeast corner.
• The gas burner should not be in front of the main door of the kitchen.
• The entrance door of the kitchen should not be in any of the corners. Kitchen doors in the east,the
north and the west are useful.
• If the kitchen is in the north-east direction mental tension increases and one may suffer great losses.
If the kitchen is in the south-west direction, life at home becomes difficult because of clashes.
• If the kitchen is in the north-west direction, the expenditure increases. A kitchen in the north ismost
dangerous. This being Kubera’s place the expenditure increases like anything beyond expectations.
FOR DINING ROOM
• Dining Room in west is the best. In the North or East it is the
second best.

• In Dining Room the doors should be in the East,West or North.

• The Dining Table should not touch the wall or it should not be in
folding against the wall.

• Water should be in northeast of the Dining Room.

• There should be no attached toilet to the Dining Room but place


for washing clothes and utensils can be provided.

• The main door of the house and of the Dining Room should not face
each other.
FOR TOILET
• The W/C should not be provided above or under Pooja room, fire and bed place.
• The facing of W/C be preferably on N/S axis.
• The toilets in the building should never be in the centre, the north-east, and the
south-west corners.
• The toilets should be constructed to the west of the building or the north-west

side of the north or the south directions, leaving the south-east and the south-
west corner. But septic tank should not be in the south.

• The pot in the toilet should be in the west, the south or the north-west side of
the west.
• The construction of the toilet should be such that the persons sitting there have
their faces towards the north or the west.
• In the toilet, there should be a small window, in the East, the West or the north.
FOR STUDY ROOM
• While studying one should face the East or North.
• The windows in the Study Room should be in the East, West or North wall.
• The racks for books should not be in the South-West or North-West corners. If
they
are in North-West corner, books will be stolen and if in South-West they will not be
much in use. So in a small cupboard in the East and North the books should be
kept.
• Except the South-West and North-West a study room in the West is the best.
• The doors of the Study Room should be in the North-East, North, East, West &
avoiding South-East, North-West and South-West corners.
FOR STAIR CASE
• In a house steps should be in the South, West or South-West. Never on the
North-East side.
• The steps should be such that one should climb towards the West or South
and while
descending one should descend towards the East or North.
• If steps are in the North-East, there will be financial losses, and business
losses. The head
of the family will be in debts.
• The first step of the stairs should not be round.
• The steps should never be in the Centre of the house.
• Preferably while climbing up the steps, they should be clockwise.
• The steps should never start or end from the Pooja Room, Strong room,
Store room, or
Kitchen.
• The steps for going to upper fllors and going to a basement should not be
the same.
IMPORTANT NOTES......
• The kitchen should not be directly in front of the main door.
• Keep all electrical /heat generating appliances in the South East corner of the room.
• Keep no broken mirrors in the house.
• Mirrors, sinks, wash -basins and taps should preferably be along the North -East walls and
they should not be any leakage from taps.
• The safe should open towards the North or the East. So keep it along south or the west.
• The toilet seat should preferably be along the
• North - South axis. The septic tank can be in the North- West or the South East corner of
the house.
• Avoid having garbage dump, street -light pole, or boulders in front of the main gate or
door.
• Your main door should not be opposite the main door of another house.
