Learning Objective
K.9 The student will investigate and understand that there are simple
repeating patterns in his/her daily life. Key concepts include
a) weather observations;
b) the shapes and forms of many common natural objects including
seeds, cones, and leaves; and
c) animal and plant growth.

Pedagogy
Planning
In this interactive white board activity, the children will touch the board to
draw the various shapes of objects and learn about the various forms natural
objects come in.

Pedagogy The lesson will commence with the grouping of students into groups of three
or four. Objects such as seeds, leaves and stones will be passed around to the
various groups for the students to familiarize themselves with the various
shapes and sizes of the objects. After doing this, we will use the congregational
approach of teaching where all students will sit facing the teacher and the
whiteboard. We will start with discussions, interactive where students state the
various observations they have made while touching and feeling the objects
given to them.

Interaction with the whiteboard will begin and this will be through drawing of
interesting items on the board and the students walking up to it to name the
various objects. The students will also get a chance to draw items that come to
mind when they hear the name nature. Once the students have fully
familiarized themselves with this topic of discussion and have understood that
natural objects come in various forms and sizes, we will move on to the topic of
plant and animal growth. For this assignment we will begin with a fun
presentation about what plants and animals are. We will then proceed to draw
on the whiteboard the various stages of plant growth, that is, seed, sprout, bud
and flower. We will then erase this and encourage students to come up to the
whiteboards and try and remember which stages came first all the way to the
final stage. We will also encourage students to draw animals they know on the
board and let other students name them out loud.

We will then look at weather patterns and we will begin this lesson with a fun
song about weather. We will then look at the various weather conditions and
this will be an interactive process with the students lifting up their arms and
trying to name the various weather conditions they know. The students will
then be asked to draw certain elements on the whiteboard that play an
important role in the topic of weather such as the sun and clouds.
