Digitec Communications Limited is rolling out a brand new mobile network in Papua New
Guinea and are looking for dynamic, experienced personnel to join its team in the following areas:
Design Engineers
(Graduate level and Experienced)
The Design engineer will manage the end-to-end
technical delivery of the telecommunications
systems required as part of business needs.
The Graduate Design Engineer will need to
have the basic knowledge and qualification
to undertake this responsibility. On the job
training will be provided as part of the role
onboarding.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Produce drawings using computer assisted
drafting systems (CAD-2D, 3D) or drafting
machines or by hand using compasses,
dividers, protractors, triangles and other
drafting devices.
• Draft plans and detailed drawings for
structures, installations, and construction
projects such as Telecom tower, Electrical
Equipment, working from sketches or notes.
• Draw maps, diagrams, and profiles, using
cross-sections and surveys, to represent
elevations, topographical contours,
subsurface formations and structures.
• Correlate, interpret, and modify data
obtained from TSS surveys, SAR reports,
and geophysical prospecting reports.
• Finish and duplicate drawings and
documentation packages, according to
required mediums and specifications
for reproduction, using blueprinting,
photography, or other duplicating methods.
• Review rough sketches, drawings,
specifications, and other engineering data
received from civil engineers to ensure that
they conform to design concepts.
• Supervise and train other supervisor,
technicians and vendor’s team leaders.
• Supervise or conduct field surveys,
inspections or technical site survey to
obtain data required to revise construction
drawings.
• Explain drawings to production or
construction teams and provide adjustments
as necessary.
• Locate and identify symbols located on
technical site survey or site acquisition
report.
• Determine the order of work and method
of presentation, such as orthographic or
isometric drawing.
• Calculate excavation tonnage and prepare
graphs and fill-hauling diagrams for use in
earth-moving operations.
• Calculate weights, volumes, and stress
factors and their implications for technical
aspects of designs.
• Determine quality, cost, strength and
quantity of required materials, and enter
figures on materials lists.
• Plot characteristics of various type of
objects by subsurface survey recordings
and other data, representing depth, degree
and direction of inclination.
Requirements
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Mobile
Telecommunications, Engineering,
Computing Science, Information Technology
or equivalent.
• A high degree of technical network
knowledge on traditional (IP) networks and
systems as well as telecom solutions such
as Satellite, Optical/Radio links, Wireless
Canopy, Microwave & Fiber Optics.
• Experience working on multiple projects
simultaneously
• Familiarity with standard office and CAD
software.
• Able to work under pressure and adhere to
deadlines
• Effective and excellent interpersonal and
communication skills
• Develop and document standard civil
engineering, construction and build
practices aligned with industry standards,
regulatory requirements and business
objectives.
• Source and perform type acceptance
evaluations as needed on products or
systems for use in client’s network
• Provide support and direction for staff
engineers, contractors or consultants
working on capital projects
• Manage civil, electrical and mechanical
engineering activities for expansion or
modification of existing network facilities
• Provide technical support during
construction or operations activities at
network locations
• Work with other departments and third
parties to process third party collocate
requests
• Assist engineering, real estate and project
management groups as required in
acquisition/construction of new network
facilities or modification of existing ones.
• In depth knowledge and interpretation
of design drawings and dealing with
Architectural and Engineering firms
• Assist the collocation team dealing with
civil engineering issues related to third party
towers for both inbound and outbound
collocation requests.
Requirements
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Mobile
Telecommunications, Engineering,
Computing Science, Information Technology
or equivalent.
• 3-4 years’ experience working on
multiple projects in planning, engineering
and new construction or expansion of
telecommunications structures, buildings,
systems and wireless networks
• Working knowledge of telecom and
construction industry codes and standards,
including relevant AU/ANZ standards and
the Building Codes
• Project management experience working
on multiple projects simultaneously
• Familiarity with standard office and CAD
software
• Valid driver’s license
• Able to work under pressure and adhere to
deadlines
• Good knowledge of techniques for planning,
monitoring and controlling programmes
