Course Title: Fundamental Rights & UNITS
Directive Principles 2 0 0 0 0 2
Credit Units: 02
Course Level: PG
Course Code: CAL601

Course Objectives:This paper aims at making students understand that fine balance between
Fundamental Rights and Directive Principles is so significant that it has been declared by the Apex
Court as the Basic Structure of the Constitution. Both have common origin and are equally

Principles were surplus age. Things have gone far out since then. They now enjoy a high place in our
constitutional scheme. No primacy or superiority can be attributed to the Fundamental Rights.
Judicial activism has given new destination to the Fundamental Duties. Both are ‘two wheels of the
same Chariot’ moving fast to make welfare state and democracy in our country real.
