Fire Drill Procedure

Haypath CR, MHANC CLP

Fire Drill Procedure

1. Note who is home and who is not.

2. Block an exit with the fire poster board, simulating a compromised exit route.

3. Locate the key for the fire alarm console. It is on the blue, bungee cord set of keys. It is a
small, brass-colored key labelled “Fire Drill.”

4. Locate the fire alarm console. It is the large, red console on the wall in the foyer, just outside
the staff office.

5. Open the fire alarm console with the key and press and hold the “Drill” button within it for 2
seconds to sound the alarm.

6. If the residents do not respond appropriately to the fire alarm by evacuating the house,
prompt each nonresponding resident to safely and orderly evacuate.

7. Direct, if necessary, the residents to go to the predetermined rendezvous point which is the
sidewalk at the foot of the Plainview Road driveway.

8. Time and record the times of how long it takes each resident to reach the rendezvous point
from the onset of the sounding of the alarm.

9. Count the number of residents at the rendezvous point to ensure that all of them (i.e., those
who were home) have evacuated the house.

10. Tell the residents that it is now appropriate for them to return inside the house.

11. Turn off the alarm by pressing the “Reset” button in the fire alarm console, then close and
lock the console.

12. Document the results of the drill by completing a “Fire Drill Report” form, then file the form
in the “Fire Drill Log” binder.

13. Fire Extinguishers:

a. Check the tickets on the five (5) fire extinguishers in the house to confirm that they have
been serviced within the last one (1) year. Make certain that there is at least one (1) fire
extinguisher on each of the three (3) floors.
b. By checking the pressure gauge of each fire extinguisher, see if each is pressurized within
normal limits.
c. If any fire extinguisher has not been serviced within one (1) year or if the pressure is not
within normal limits, inform MHANC Facilities & Maintenance Department.
