Gen-set starting procedure:


1. Before start any engine asked NLDC to increase load demand.
2. Make sure from control room, which no. engine will be started.
3. Ensure that engine is stand by position there is no maintenance work going on.
4. Check engine sump for correct lube-oil level.
5. Open start air valve and ensure that there is enough pressure.
6. Check fuel booster pump and pre-heating pump switch is in auto position.
7. Check dirty and clean fuel pump switch is in auto position.
8. Start pre-lube pump manually.
9. Check any leakage.
10. Check all the indicator valves are in open position.
11. Turn the engine crank shaft with turning gear unit for at least two revolutions or 4/5 minutes duration.
12. Dis-engage the turning gear.
13. Make sure fuel stop lever is in stop position.
14. Push the button of start solenoid to blow out any water/oil from cylinder.
15. Set the fuel stop lever to working position.
16. Close the valve of cylinder indicator cock.
17. Put the pre-lube pump switch is in auto position.
18. Inform control room that engine is ready to start.
19. From control room check the starting condition is ok in WOIS work station PLC.
20. Check the synchronizing switch is in auto position in CFA 901 panel.
21. Check the generating set control switch is in auto position in CFC panel.
22. Now inform engine hall, the shift engineer that the engine will be started.
23. Give a start order to respective engine from the WOIS work station (or push start button of CFC panel manually).
24. After pre lubrication period (120 second) engine will be start cracking by compressed air.
25. And engine will reach full RPM (Keep an eye on engine RPM).
26. Gen-set will automatically synchronize with national grid by MV CB closing from switch gear room.
27. Load up the generator gradually as per observation generator parameters.

Gen-set stopping procedure:


1. Before stop the gen-set inform NLDC.
2. Check that the “generating set control” switch of CFC panel is in auto position.
3. Give a stop command from WOIS work station ( or normally push the stop button of CFC panel)
4. The engine will automatically unload and generator MV CB will be open in switch gear room.
5. After generator CB open engine will be on idle run for a preset time before stop.
6. Check that pre-lube pump, pre heating pump and anti-condensate heater is ok.
7. Check after 15 minutes if pre lube pump has stopped automatically.
8. Close start air valve.
9. Put fuel stop lever in Stop position.
10. Open all indicator valves.
11. Engaged turning gear.
12. Inform control room that engine is standby mode.
