- duty schedule could either be: 8-4pm, 4-12mn,


12-8am for 8 hour shift; or it could be 7am-7pm,
7pm-7am for a 12 hour shift, all identified activities
should be finished within the given time if not
especially those that requires attention should be
endorsed properly to the next shift. .

- Resources or materials needed should be


identified prior to providing care this is to save
time and effort during the delivery of care to the
patient

- Available supplies such as cotton balls, gauze,


betadine, assessment forms and etc should not
be used more than or beyond its purpose
(example: cotton balls or gauze used to wipe dirty
shoes or assessment forms used to wipe wet
hands) this is to ensure that enough supplies will
be made available especially during emergency
purposes.

- If there are necessary materials or equipment


that does not serve its purpose its either you need
to replace them or report this to proper authority.
(In our case in the school we report it to Property
and Maintenance Office) Example: An oxygen
gauge that does not function or measure the
oxygen consumption of the patient.

- there are alot of tasks or procedures that need to


be done by the nurses, but some of these
procedures can be safely assigned to a Nurse
Attendant or Midwife.
- Example: Taking of Vital Signs or Vital Signs
Monitoring in the hospital is done by a Nurse
Attendant.

- As mentioned, taking of vital signs can be


safely done by a Nurse Attendant which they
were trained to do. Identifying the
competency of the staff to perform certain
interventions ensures the safe delivery of the
procedure.

- Color coded trash bins are placed in designated


areas in the hospital:
- Black- Non-infectious dry waste
- Green- Non-infectious wet waste
- Yellow- Infectious and pathological waste
- Yellow with black band- chemical and heavy
metal wstes
- Orange- Radioactive waste
- Red- Sharp and pressure containeers

- Steps to follow in case of fire, earthquake and


other emergency situations should be placed in all
corners of the hospital. Health care professionals
on duty should also be aware of the things she or
he needs to do in case of emergency as they will
be leading these patients out of the hospital in
these times.
