CARE Academy
CARE Academy is a global learning resource, dedicated to supporting staff
development at CARE. The Academy offers a broad range of staff
development options designed to meet your needs, ranging from instructor-
led workshops to self-paced eLearning or CD-ROM courses and
comprehensive toolkits and facilitator guides that can be easily adapted to
your local needs. You can find a copy of the course catalogue by visiting the
CARE Academy website.

Required Courses
Every new employee is expected to take the following courses on the CARE
Academy website. If you do not have good internet connection, the courses
are on CD-ROMs and are in English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese. You
can get a CD-ROM by contacting your CARE Academy Liaison. The
required courses are:
1. CARE's Approach to Ending Poverty
2. Addressing Poverty & Social Injustice
3. Gender Equity and Diversity Basics*
4. Personal Safety and Security Awareness
5. Workplace Harassment–USA Based Staff Only
*Gender Equity and Diversity has not yet been confirmed as a required course but is in
the process of being approved as a required course.

Employee Wellness Resources


CARE focuses on the well-being of staff, both in the US and internationally.
CARE has developed policies, programs and interventions to respond to the
psychosocial needs of CARE staff. Additionally, advice and support is
provided for COs to put systems into place to support those who do our work
on the ground in managing stress and trauma. The following services are
offered as part of CARE Employee Wellness:
For national staff
Catastrophic Safety net for medical costs not covered by local health insurance plan/scheme
Illness Fund Not limited to HIV/AIDS
Managed by RMUs
Special Accrual
Typically used for CO-wide or global staff wellness interventions
Wellness Fund
Managed out of Atlanta

Operational in 15 COs in Africa and Asia


Peer Social
Purpose is to increase social support in COs to help staff cope with the stresses of life

For international staff
Provides counseling, legal, financial, and other work-life services on a free or
discounted basis

If an international staff member needs EAP for themselves or their family (they are
calling EAP from overseas), the process is as follows:

1. Staff member calls their operator and asks to make a collect call

If an international staff member needs guidance with an employee issue, the EAP also
offers management consultants, who are available to discuss behavioral health
matters affecting staff
