Bernoulli Equation

P+ * ρ v2 = constant

Continuity Equation

Ρ*A*v = constant

When the air passes through the airfoil of wings the it must split into two parts of the flow travelling
to the top and another travelling to the bottom. The shape of the typical airfoil is asymmetrical,
surface area of the top surface is greater than that of the bottom. So, as the air flows on the top
surface of the airfoil, I air is displaced more by it than the bottom surface.

Thus according to continuity equation, the displacement or loss of area leads to the increase in the
velocity in the top surface.

Similarly, according to the Bernoulli equation, increase in velocity leads to the decrease in the
pressure in the top surface.

Thus pressure loss over top surface is greater than bottom surface. This results in the net pressure in
the upward positive direction. This pressure force is known as lift.

Angle of attack is the angle between the relative wind and a reference line of the airplane.
