ROYAL CROWN COMPANY

Panel 1: Good day everyone, I’m Miss Tumambing. I will be one of your panellists for
today/this afternoon.
Panel 2: I’m Miss Magracia, I will also be one of the panellists. I wish you the best of luck.
Panel 3: I am one of the panellists, too. I’m Miss Pasahol and here is our Manager, Miss
Panganiban.
Hiring Manager: thank you, again I’m Miss Panganiban. And as the manager, I will be in
charge of the evaluation of the applicants for today/this afternoon. We are the ROYAL
CROWN COMPANY, a company that specializes in oil drilling and refinery. Although we
work at a high level, we don’t see ourselves as stuffy or exclusive.

Panel 2: Instead, we see ourselves as helpful partners to our clients, and we look for team
members who have a strong and logical mind that can do work in a different field.

Hiring Manager: (Look at the paper) so you are Margelene Carrera and you are applying for the
position of production engineer.

Applicant: good day miss, yes, I am applying for the position of production engineer in this
company.
Hiring Manager: now, tell me about yourself
Applicant: I am a responsible and reliable person. I can and will gladly do whatever work is
assigned to me. I am also hardworking and committed because one of my goals is to finish my
tasks in an organized way. You should hire me because I will learn enthusiastically the job
quickly in a professional manner. And I will start contributing positively to the team in as fast a
time as possible.
Hiring Manager: what persuaded you to work for our company?
Applicant: I've seen your company is consistently listed as one of the top places to work. I've
read employee testimonials and heard of your enthusiasm for encouraging employee growth
through education, training, and vast resources. I already know that engaged employees produce
better work, and that is evident in the most recent campaign you created. I would love to join
your innovative team, continue to create great work, and grow within the company by learning
new skills.
Hiring Manager: okay. Ms. Tumambing, any questions for the applicant?
Panel 1: I do have a question for you Ms. Carrera, what are your strengths?
Applicant: my strength is that my ability to take on responsibilities and complete multiple tasks
whilst under pressure. Also, I understand the importance of customer service, so I put the
customer first.
Panel 2: do you have any weaknesses?
Applicant: I do have weaknesses, one of it is my inability to say no to people. Normally, I would
be the first one who will raise their hands up to do the work or volunteer doing it, so I always end
up having loads of work or being overloaded. But this is not a hindrance for me to do a good
performance at work.
Panel 3: my question is what makes you different from the other applicants?
Applicant: I am a very good communicator and find it's easy for me to relate to other people.
Besides that, I enjoy learning new things and am constantly seeking out new learning
opportunities.
Hiring manager: another question, what are the things that are you valuing in your work?
Applicant: There were two things that I value at work that were hard work and team
cooperation. For me, hard work is the key to success because it teaches us dedication, discipline,
and determination. Also, I value team cooperation because it will give us productive work, and
team cooperation will lessen the desire of employees to compete with each other.
Panel 1: What are your goals for the future?
Applicant: I would like to continue developing my engineering expertise over the next several
years. One of the reasons I’m interested in working for a fast-growing startup company is that
I’ll have the ability to wear many hats and collaborate with many different departments. I believe
this experience will serve me well in achieving my ultimate goal of someday leading the
production department and/or become a field engineer.
Panel 2: How do you define success?
Applicant: I define success as fulfilling my role in my team and in the company. I work toward
completing my individual duties as effectively as possible, balancing that with professional
growth and contributing to larger organizational goals. In my previous role, success meant
exceeding weekly metrics, implementing processes that supported the company’s KPIs and
meeting quarterly professional development goals.
Panel 3: where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time?
Applicant: I think within those 5 years I would be a field engineer because I will improve
myself every day by studying new things inside this company. I will promise to show my
excellence and I wouldn't settle for less. I believe that this kind of action will make some impact
on this company
Hiring Manager: why do you want to leave your current job?
Applicant: after years of experience with my current job, I am now ready for a new challenge
where my skills and qualities will be put to good use. I will leave my current job without any
conflicts, I had a lot of fond memories with my co-employees and previous employer. But as I’ve
said, I am ready for new experiences.
Panel 1: you’ve mentioned earlier that you value customer service, when have you delivered
excellent customer service?
Applicant: I helped a client in my former job who had a difficulty selecting a product unique to
their needs. In my own view, I spent time discussing the specifics of the items we had available
for their convenience, which would be sufficient for their needs. I felt it was important to provide
outstanding customer service in line with my employer’s customer service values.
Panel 2: in some circumstances this cannot be avoided but, what would you do if you didn’t get
on with someone in your team?
Applicant: I agree that, that may happen but I will be a better person and would tackle the
situation with a view to resolving any conflict quickly to avoid the unnecessary effect to the
performance in our work. But if I wasn’t able to resolve it, I would act professionally at all times
and will do all I could to get along with the person for the sake of the team.
Hiring Manager: a while ago you’ve said that you are able to work under pressure, how do you
handle pressure?
Applicant: well, I understand that pressure is always present in our everyday working life, and I
do perform really well whilst under pressure. For me to cope up with pressure, I prioritize first to
finish the most important tasks, I have my lists of tasks to do, so I can do it in an organized
manner. I give myself due dates and work solidly and put in extra hours to get the tasks done
within the set time of frame.
Panel 3: why should we hire you?
Applicant: Within your business, I have done my research and as I have read the job description
in depth, I strongly believe that I have the abilities, quality and qualities required to perform the
job to a very high standard. If you recruit me, I'm going to work hard to fit into the team so that
in a very short timeframe I can start contributing positively.
Hiring Manager: what didn’t you like about your last job?
Applicant: there wasn’t anything I dislike, however, occasionally I considered my bosses a very
disappointing lack of ambition as I felt they should have done so much more. I am a very
optimistic and enthusiastic person, and if their future ambitions had been more ambitious, I
would have loved them.
Hiring Manager: Tell us about a challenge you’ve faced and how you handled it.
Applicant: In my last job, we were facing a tough deadline and my boss was out for the day.
Our client was expecting a project to be delivered by 5PM, but we were far behind schedule. I
took the lead on the project, delegated tasks to the four other team members in a way that I
thought would utilize everyone’s strengths best. And then I re-organized my own personal tasks
so I could dedicate my entire day to contributing to this project as well. The project was a
success and we delivered the work on-time. I went on to lead more projects after that, and used
what I learned to be a better and productive engineer.
Panel 1: Well mis Carrera how do you make decisions?
Applicant: I typically list out all available options and then weigh the pros and cons and
expected outcomes of each. If other teams or people are impacted by the decision, I’ll ask for
their thoughts, too. Sometimes a peer will point out a pro or con that I hadn’t seen, so I find it
helpful to talk to others when appropriate. After this, I’ll choose the course of action that I feel is
most likely to bring about the best outcome. I also weigh risks of each possible decision. If one
decision has a good potential outcome but comes with too much risk for the company, then it
may not be the right choice. Would you like me to give an example? Or did that answer your
question…
Panel 1: It is okay miss carrera you did my question.
Hiring Manager: what three things would your last boss say about you?
Applicant: that would be, that I am reliable, trustworthy, and when given a job it would be done
to the right standard and on time.
Panel 1: what are your salary expectations?
Applicant: I believe that I am worth the top range of Php 200,000, but I am prepared to take
slightly lower because I understand that I have to prove that I’m going to be a great fit for the
role.
Panel 2: what is your greatest achievement to date?
Applicant: The time I worked as part of a team to win extra sales contracts for my boss must be
my greatest accomplishment to date.
Panel 3: say that we had hired you, what would you do in the first 30 days?
Applicant: I would concentrate on three things, First, I'd get you, my boss, a complete brief on
what you expected from me and the expectations I wanted to work toward. Second, I would get
to know my colleagues very well so that I could recognize the kind of stuff I could easily begin
to contribute positively to the goals of the company. And finally, in the shortest possible time, I
will look to complete my first significant project or task to show you what I am capable of in the
job, and also to repay the trust you have shown in me by employing me in the position.
Hiring Manager: what makes you motivated?
Applicant: there are three things that motivates me: Doing a great job for my employer,
continuously improving my position and also feeling that I constantly contribute and add value to
the business for which I work.
Panel 3: so miss Carrera this question is about you being a production engineer. How would you
maintain discipline on the floor as a Production Engineer?
Applicant: I have made a good communication channel between the workers and me. I give the
daily production target to the workers which make them busy to complete their work. I give my
full attention on the production floor and we take strict action if any worker starts gossiping
during working hours.
Panel 1: What safeguards do you have in place for double-checking your engineering work and
ensuring that mistakes don't slip past you?
Applicant: I use the error-checking features in my engineering solution to double-check
measurements and other math that I included. I also get another set of eyes on my work,
especially if I'm rushing to meet deadlines.
Hiring Manager: What do you think will be the challenge in Manufacturing Products?
Applicant: I think that the main challenge in manufacturing is to develop better production
processes, ensure the right material and component supplies at the least cost, decrease production
time, eliminate wastage and maintain quality in the final product. And through my skills and
qualities I will do my very best to cope up with this challenge and do it with good work and on
time.
Panel 2: What do you expect from a supervisor?
Applicant: I find I thrive in situations where my supervisors take the time to provide me with
constructive feedback about my performance. This allows me to know that I’m on the right track.
I also appreciate it when they have an “open door” policy where their staff feel encouraged to
approach them about issues.
Panel 1: okay. So Ms. Carrera, do you have any questions?
Applicant: I do have a question Ma'am, if I were given a chance, what would you need me to
concentrate on in the first few weeks of starting?
Hiring Manager: that would be familiarizing around the company, from the employees to what
we do here at Royal Crown Company.
Applicant: thank you
Panel 3: thank you Ms. Carrera, for choosing Royal Crown Company. We will call you soon.
