TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION FOR

SEA WATER BOOSTER PUMP FOR CHLORINATOR


1. Scope:

This specifications intended to cover the design, manufacture, assembly, inspection,


testing and delivery at site, properly packed, of Centrifugal pumps complete with
driving motor, base frame, all accessories and auxiliaries as specified hereinafter for
the Madras Atomic Power Station, Kalpakkam. These pumps are referred as ‘Sea
water booster pump for chlorinator’ in this document.

The bidder shall be submitting clear cross sectional drawings/ part drawing, overall
dimensions, material of construction/bill of materials, technical details and
performance data sheet. Incomplete offer is summarily rejected.

If any additional details required before tendering, other than mentioned below, can
be obtained from Purchaser.

The equipments covered by this specification shall comprise of the following for one
complete set of pump,

a. Single Stage Centrifugal, horizontal pumping unit.


b. Electrical motor driving unit to suit given power supply. Motor terminal box,
cover with sealing gasket and gland.
c. Mechanical seal assemblies as integral part of the pump and required
piping/fittings/valves for seal cooling/flushing.
d. Base frame with mounting bolts for pump and motor.
e. Anchor bolts/Foundation bolts (J-bolts) and (Base frame).
f. Std. Flanged Suction elbow of 90 Dec for connecting pump suction horizontal
flange to vertical suction line flange (Existing)
g. Two numbers of mating flanges and suitable bolts / nuts for suction and
discharge nozzles.
h. Coupling for pump/motor with coupling guard.
i. Pump fitted with suction and Discharge pressure gauges.
j. Suitable lifting and handling arrangement provided in the pump/motor.
k. One set of recommended/mandatory spares for maintaining the pump for a
period of five years.

Note: After supply of equipments, supplier shall provide site technical


assistance for erection and commissioning of the pump . The erection and
commissioning works will be undertaken by the purchaser.

2. Work not included:

The following items will be supplied or installed by the purchaser (NPCIL/MAPS):


a. Building, foundation and cement grout.
b. External piping, fittings, valves and instruments other than those specified
therein.
c. Motor starters and external electrical wiring.
d. Erection, commissioning and site testing.
e. Transportation within site.
f. Logic circuits and control circuits.

3. Standards:

The design, manufacture and testing of the equipment shall be conforming to


relevant standard/code with latest editions as listed below,
a. Hydraulic institute standard, U.S.A.
b. U.S.A. standard code for steel pipe flanges and flanged fittings, ANSI B16.
c. I.S.I Standards for various test and materials.
d. A.S.T.M standards for various tests, and materials.
e. IS standard for three phase induction motors and testing.
f. Instrument Society of American Standards.
g. American Society of Mechanical Engineers.
h. ISO-2372 for vibration acceptance limits.
i. Bolts, studs and nuts conforms to ASTM A 193 Gr B8M CL-II, ASTM A 194 8M
with SS 316 washers.

4. Pump Operating conditions:

a. Site conditions: Pump shall be installed in the chlorination plant building


indoor which is located near sea shore area.

Elevation at ground level : 10.33 meters above M.S.L


Ambient temperature : Minimum 260C
: Maximum 500C
Relative Humidity : 75% to 90%.

b. Chlorination Booster pumps will handle sea water and intake at pressure
range of 0.1 to 0.2 Kg/cm2 (flooded suction with priming tank).

c. The physical and chemical analysis of sea water are given below,

b) Particle larger than 50mN : 12.8 ppm
c) Particle smaller than 5mN : 12.8 ppm
d) total suspended matter : 48.0 ppm

6. Inspection and Testing:

Pre dispatch inspection will be carried out by NPCIL-QA. The supplier shall prepare
and submit the quality assurance plan (QAP) to purchaser for approval prior to
manufacturing/supply. Stage wise inspection will be carried out for materials of
construction, overall/major dimensional checks and performance testing of pump
with driving unit in test bed at manufacturer premises.
