DEFINITION OF TERMS

COMPREHENSION –

comprehension means understanding. Comprehension actually comes from the Latin term, comprehensionem,

which means "a seizing." When you have comprehension of a subject, you have seized information and
incorporated it into your own knowledge.

EFFECTIVENESS –

Effectiveness is the capability of producing a desired result or the ability to produce desired output. When something
is deemed effective, it means it has an intended or expected outcome, or produces a deep, vivid impression.

ONLINE LEARNING –

Online learning is education that takes place over the Internet. It is often referred to as “e- learning” among other
terms. However, online learning is just one type of “distance learning” - the umbrella term for any learning that
takes place across distance and not in a traditional classroom.

READING COMPREHENSION –

Reading comprehension is the ability to process text, understand its meaning, and to integrate with what the reader
already knows.

SKILL –

A skill is the ability to perform an action with determined results often within a given amount of time, energy, or
both. Skills can often be divided into domain-general and domain-specific skills. ... Skill usually requires certain
environmental stimuli and situations to assess the level of skill being shown and used.

TECHNOLOGY –

Technology is the sum of techniques, skills, methods, and processes used in the production

of goods or services or in the accomplishment of objectives, such as scientific investigation.

EDUCATION –

Education is the process of facilitating learning, or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values, beliefs,

and habits. Educational methods include teaching, training, storytelling, discussion and directed research.
Education frequently takes place under the guidance of educators, however learners can also educate
themselves.

ACADEMIC SYSTEM –

The term education system generally refers to public schooling, not private schooling, and more commonly to
kindergarten through high school programs. Schools or school districts are typically the smallest recognized form of
“education system” and countries are the largest. States are also considered to have education systems.
ACADEMIC GRADES –

Grading in education is the process of applying standardized measurements of varying levels of achievement in a

course. Grades can be assigned as letters (for example, A through F), as a range (for example, 1 to 6), as a
percentage, or as a number out of a possible total (for example, out of 100).[1]

A grade point average is a number representing the average value of the accumulated final grades earned in
courses over time. More commonly called a GPA, a student’s grade point average is calculated by adding up all
accumulated final grades and dividing that figure by the number of grades awarded.

ASYNCHRONOUS–

Asynchronous learning is a general term used to describe forms of education, instruction, and learning that do not
occur in the same place or at the same time. The term is most commonly applied to various forms of digital and
online learning in which students learn from instruction—such as prerecorded video lessons or game-based learning
tasks that students complete on their own—that is not being delivered in person or in real time.

SYNCHRONOUS–

Synchronous learning is a general term used to describe forms of education, instruction, and learning that occur at
the same time, but not in the same place. The term is most commonly applied to various forms of televisual, digital,
and online learning in which students learn from instructors, colleagues, or peers in real time, but not in person. For
example, educational video conferences, interactive webinars, chat-based online discussions, and lectures that are
broadcast at the same time they delivered would all be considered forms of synchronous learning.

NEO LMS–

NEO is a learning management system (LMS) that helps schools manage and create all classroom activities, such
as creating and delivering educational content, assessing students, tracking their results, and promoting
communication and collaboration between students and teachers/faculty.
NEO is a learning management system (LMS) that makes it easy to create and manage all learning activities,
whether it’s building online classes, assessing students, enhancing collaboration, or tracking student achievement.

DISTANCE LEARNING–

Distance learning, also called distance education, e-learning, and online learning, form of education in which
the main elements include physical separation of teachers and students during instruction and the use of various
technologies to facilitate student-teacher and student-student communication. Distance learning traditionally has
focused on nontraditional students, such as full-time workers, military personnel, and nonresidents or individuals in
remote regions who are unable to attend classroom lectures.

VIRTUAL CLASSROOM–

A virtual classroom is a digital learning environment that allows teachers and students to connect in online in real
time. Virtual classrooms utilize video conferencing, online whiteboards and screen sharing to allow educators to hold
live lectures, virtual office hours, and discussions with students in an interactive setting. Virtual classrooms are meant
to replicate the experience of physical classrooms, with the added benefits of file sharing, instant feedback and
interaction and are ideal in distance learning situations.
