Duties:
Studer Trust seeks a dynamic, experienced teacher trainer to assist in the facilitation of
the successful work and mission of the Salay Teacher Training Center (TTC), a program
of Studer Trust. The Training Coordinator will be an influential and motivational teacher
with a passion for improving the quality of teaching and learning in some of the most
under-resourced schools in the region. This full-time teaching training position will be
based at the TTC facility in Mandalay’s Salay Monastery, with occasional travel
throughout the local area and country.

Teacher Training Center Description:


Since its founding in 2002, Studer Trust has built and funded over 88 school buildings in
underserved communities in Myanmar. Studer Trust affiliated schools now employ 966
teachers and reach a population of 25,177 students. TTC’s mission is to improve the
quality of instruction in schools affiliated with Studer Trust and to provide a replicable
example of successful teacher training in Myanmar. Located in a purpose-built facility in
the Salay Monastery in Mandalay, TTC provides 10-week teacher trainings for monastic
school teachers as well as shorter specialty courses for school and community leaders in
an immersive boarding environment.

Mission and Objectives of TTC:


TTC exists to equip teachers and school leaders with the knowledge, skills, and tools to
provide a transformative quality of education for children studying in Studer Trust
affiliated schools. TTC will accomplish this mission by drawing upon Studer Trust’s
experience and “spirit of helping” ethos as well as the recent work of monastic education
reform in Myanmar to:
1. Improve curriculum taught in Studer Trust schools;
2. Raise instructional quality by developing the knowledge, methods, and status of
teachers;
3. Facilitate meaningful knowledge-sharing among all teachers, education leaders,
educational volunteers, and innovators.

Training Coordinator Qualifications:


The successful Training Coordinator candidate will demonstrate a knowledge of best
practices in education and familiarity with education in a developing context as well as
teacher training, curriculum design and evaluation, computer skills, and English
language learning instruction. The successful applicant will also demonstrate an ability
to manage a variety of responsibilities and roles in a small office/NGO environment.
Essential:
• Language: Fluent written and spoken Myanmar (Burmese)
• Language: High level of written and spoken English
• Experience: 2-3 years of experience in teaching and/or the field of education
• Experience: 1-2 years of experience related to teacher training
• Experience: Demonstrated knowledge and teaching experience implementing Child-
Centered (CCA) instruction and Communicative Language Teacher (CLT) English
language learning instruction
• Proficiency in basic computer skills, such as MS Word and MS Excel
• Excellent communication skills

Desired but not essential:


• Experience: Experience in program coordination, familiarity with issues facing
Myanmar’s monastic schools, experience working in the region.
• Experience: Experience in facilitating online learning

Key Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager, the Training Coordinator will

Training Facilitation
• Deliver training modules, programming, and activities
• Moderate, observe, and evaluate teacher practicums and ensure a robust TTC
student-teacher appraisal process aligned to TTC teaching standards

Training Coordination
• Coordinate teacher training practicum along with TTC’s practicum appraisal system
• Coordinate the purchase of all material and supplies necessary for training and the
maintenance of TTC facilities

Recruitment
• Coordinate student recruitment, selection, and retention efforts for all TTC trainings
and programming
• Coordinate the recruitment and evaluation of outside trainers and specialty workshops
