Objectives:
Use Simulink for the simulation for the experiment
Create an have wave uncontrolled rectified with RL configuration
Study the characteristics of the circuit components by comparing their output voltage
graphs
Apparatus:
Matlab
Simulink software
Theory:
Single phase uncontrolled half-wave rectifiers are the simplest and possibly the most widely
used rectification circuit for small power levels as their output is heavily affected by the reactance of
the connected load. The single-phase half-wave rectifier configuration of a single resistor passes the
positive half of the AC supply waveform with the negative half being eliminated. By reversing the
direction of the diode we can pass negative halves and eliminate the positive halves of the AC
waveform. Therefore the output will be a series of positive or negative pulses.
On the other hand, if the load is purely inductive, the waveforms change considerably.
During the positive half cycle, the current builds up from zero to a peak value. During the positive
half cycle the energy transferred from the source to the inductor. When the source reverses polarity
the diode must wait for the current to goes to zero by itself before conduction ceases. Thus the diode
will continue to conduct throughout the negative half cycle, during which the output voltage is
negative and the total energy stored in the inductor is returned to the source
Procedure:
Make the circuit connections as shown above in the figure
Run the entire circuit simulation
View the voltage graphs for input diode and voltage
Compare the results

Conclusion:
As we can see the first graph which represents the output, mainly of half waves in its positive cycle,
representing its half wave rectification. However due to the addition of an inductor the output
slightly lags behind the input and the diode ends up conducting for a while after the positive cycle,
which caused a slight dip towards the negative cycle of the graph.
