Girls’ Safety and Security Coordinator

Location: Yangon

Colorful Girls is Myanmar organization dedicated to promoting the voice of

vulnerable adolescent girls in Myanmar through unique, after school programs
that encourage personal development and strong relational skills.

The Girls' Safety and Security Coordinator will be responsible for the development and
implementation of crisis response and crisis response awareness programming along with outreach
work to adolescent girls on the margins.

As Colorful Girls has developed, building circles of strong girls throughout villages and town in
Myanmar, we have developed a basic crisis response protocol in the event that girls in our programs
face crisis, particularly in terms of all forms of violence or dangerous working conditions. The
position will advance and deepen that crisis response work, including proactively engaging with girls
and also community-based project staff to be certain that we are doing what is needed to make girls
feel safe and confident to call should they confront crisis.

The position requires creative planning and a high-level or responsibility. Candidate should feel
comfortable with making project design decisions, handling budgets, coordinating with other staff
and travelling. This is a fulltime position and will be supported by Coordinator, Technical Advisor
and Regional Coordinator staff persons.

Responsibilities:

Crisis Response Management

Travel to various parts of the country to train community-based staff on the internal protocols and
how to work with girls to make use of the tool

Manage the development of materials to help girls understand the ID card system and how to use it
when reporting

After consulting with various members of staff, develop an internal response system for reports of
violence, exploitation or others types of crisis

Prepare list of specific security and safety concerns for girls from different project communities
across the country

Phone Outreach Management

Develop phone call outreach strategy in order to maintain connection with both girls in the program
and those who are alumnae.

Maintain records of phone call outreach and raise any unexpected issues from these calls.

Train and support other team members and alumnae young women in conducting phone outreach.

Data Management

Learn basic use of current data management system to track crisis reports and follow-up.

Oversee the upkeep of participant data updates - any issues that girls call in with and their updated
contact information - in the data management system.

Issue Awareness and Knowledge

Maintain a working knowledge of risks and vulnerabilities specific to adolescent girls across the
country - including staying updated on latest publications and also direct from girls and their
community leaders.

We want the Girls' Safety and Security Coordinator to actively know the risks -even as they shift -and
the services available and continue to develop that knowledge with sensitivity to adolescent girls
realities and perspectives.

Child Safeguarding and Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment

In collaboration with other relevant persons, GSSC will lead on any formal and informal reports of
policy infraction.

The position requires:

Coordination with other organization staff at many levels

Manage budget for the project

Maintain financial documents and clearing of expenses with finance staff

Travel extensively to assist community-based staff and learn condition of life for the – this includes
Yangon area, Mandalay, Sagaing, Tanintharyi and some parts of Shan and Kachin state

Mandate of no history of abuse or violence against children or adults and commitment to uphold to
highest standards of safeguarding for all children and other marginalized people

Required Skills and Competencies:

Must be a woman (Sorry men.) Myanmar National.

Demonstrated responsibility in past job positions.

Strong interest in confronting violence against girls.

Intermediate Written and Spoken English - not required, but an additional skillset.

Ability to interact with vulnerable adolescent girls in a positive, non-judgmental way.

Ability to work collaboratively with other members of the Colorful Girls team but manage without
constant oversight.

Able to work in community-based setting, with minimal office infrastructure and resources.

Skilled in Word and Excel along with confident at internet and email use.

Motivated to develop the capacity of Myanmar’s girls.

Good ability to critically think and make decisions.

Must be flexible, confident and willing to try new things. As this is a young organization the
candidate must be able to adapt as the project takes shape.
