Pointe 1 Syllabus

Everything to the right and left unless specified. Students should be able to perform
each step as well as count each step as performing it.
Week 1 Center Work
The correct way to tie the ribbons of a Pointe shoe.


Week 2 Barre Work
Step up in parallel position
Facing the barre
4/4 slow
5-8 Prep-breath, lift hands to place on barre
1 small brush
2 place box of shoe on the floor
3 push up to Pointe with right leg (place left in parallel)
4 hold
5-8 lower down through demi pointe
Repeat with the left leg
Finish with head to right, arms to prep

Week 3 Barre Work


Elevé in first position
Facing the barre
4/4 medium
5-8 Prep-breath, lift hands to place on barre
1-4 rise to pointe
5-6 lower
7-8 demi-plié, stretch
Repeat
Finish with head to right, arms to prep

Week 4 Barre Work


Tendu /Foot stretch
One hand at the barre
3/4 slow
5th position
5-8 Prep-breath, 1/2 port de bras
1-2 tendu devant
3-4 bent front leg placing box on the floor
5-6 stretch leg, keeping toe as turned out and stretched as possible
7-8 close 5th
Repeat a là seconde
Finish with head to right, arms to prep

Week 5 Barre Work
Relevé Springs
facing the barre
4/4 medium
1st position
5-8 prep-breath, lift hands to place on barre
1 demi-plié
2 relevé with a little spring
3 hold
4 lower down to 1st with no plie
repeat
Finish with head to right, arms to prep

Week 6 Barre Work


Relevé echappé from 1st to 2nd positions

1 demi-plié
2 a little spring open legs to 2nd position
3 return legs to 1st position demi-plié
4 stretch

Week 9 Barre Work
Bourrées to the side traveling across the barre
on pointe with straight legs in fifth, right foot forward in fifth take a small step with left first (slightly over-
crossing) then catch up with the right. No air should be seen between legs. The front knee releases and
contracts to achieve a supple visual aesthetic, but it does not BEND.

Across the Barre – Marches – Passé, step onto pointe (parallel)

Week 11 Barre Work


Across the Barre with Sur le cou de pied derrière – Same as above, but pass through coupé (turned out)
