Investigation (Complementary angle)
Two angles are complementary if their sum is 900. We say that and are complements of each
other.
Your task is to determine if a relationship exists between the sines and cosines of an angle and its
complement.
What to do: -
1. Use your calculator to complete the following table. Include some angles of your choice.

0 1 90 1 0

0.292 0.956 73 0.956 0.292

0.615 0.788 52 0.788 0.615

0.669 0.743 48 0.743 0.669

0.848 0.529 32 0.529 0.848

0.951 0.309 18 0.309 0.951

2. Write down your observations from the tabled values.

Ans: - From table we get, = and cos =

3.
Use Pythagoras theorem find the value of . Hence find the value of .
Using the value of . Complete the following table.

C2= 42 + 32 = 25
C= 5
= opp/Hyp = ⅗
-1 ⅗
=
= 36.869

0.6 0.66 0.8 0.8 0.6

4. Do you think that the result make sense.

Ans: - Yes, because it follows the Pythagoras rule.
5. Investigate possible connections between and .
