INDIRECT CONTROL OF DOUBLE ACTING CYLINDER

Objectives:

1. To design an indirect control circuit of a double acting cylinder.

The problem:

A double acting cylinder is to extend when a pushbutton is operated. Upon release of the
pushbutton the cylinder is to retract. The cylinder is of small bore (25 mm diameter)
requiring a small flow rate to operate at the correct speed.

Set-up diagram

Draw the pneumatic circuit diagram for the problem. Designate the components and
indicate the numbering system for the valve ports.

Indirect Control Circuit:

Pressing the button on the valve A actuates valve B and causes the cylindrical shaft to extend
indirectly. (Fig. 1)

The cylindrical shaft then retracts upon releasing the button from valve A. (Fig. 2)
