Formulating research problem

Disadvantage of social media especially Facebook in the case of St. joseph Secondary School
students (Addis Ababa).

Problem statement

Facebook is used by many people to connect their friends and relatives around the globe
(Brydolf , 2007). According to Ellison, Steinfield and Lampe (2011), for example, a significant
number (approximately 73%) of internet -usage teenagers have joined social networking sites by
the end of 2009, with almost half of them (38%) visiting social networking sites daily.

The use of Facebook platforms has grown so fast that is has even attracted the attention of
Secondary School students. Negative effect on their academic performances by interrupting them
from the learning process. Therefore, it is becoming difficult to ignore the fact that there might
be direct correlation between Facebook usage and the student academic performances show at
school. Since the problem relatively new, the researcher believes several attempts to be made for
an idea answering this question. As well as, there is no research conducted yet on this topic in St.
joseph Secondary School students.
