Increasing the price of petrol is the best way to solve growing traffic and pollution
problems.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

What other measures do you think might be effective?

Due to the increasing popularity of driving cars, the issues of traffic congestion and
pollution has arisen a huge concern of the public. I agree that the higher price of
petrol can address those problems effectively, and other solutions should be taken as
well.

There is no denying that less people would afford driving owing to more money
spent on petrol so that the numbers of cars will decrease dramatically and traffic is
less likely to be congested. Besides, less pollution form the car emission will be
created. Consequently, this method could be taken to cope with these problems
effectively.

Other measures could be taken by governments. One useful approach is that public
transportation should be more cost-effective/affordable and accessible, which means
average people can afford the tickets of buses, trains and other public ways of
transport so they are motivated to take them rather than their private cars. Another
promising method is that higher tax should be imposed when purchasing cars, which
would deter people from buying more cars. Finally, having no traffic zone in the
central area of cities can also be seen an essential method. In those areas,
automobiles are not allowed and people could walk or take bikes. For example, in
many metropolises, some areas of city centers are no traffic zones in order to curb
the increasingly higher volume of cars.

To conclude, in my opinion, rising the price of petrol, to large extent, can be the key
solution to cope with traffic jam and pollution. What is more, other measures,
including establishing sound public transportation system, imposing higher tax on
buying cars as well as promoting no traffic zones, can be also productive.
