QUESTION

Theme: COVID-19 risk shaping digital transformation: How is ‘business moment’

performing for more data-driven insights?

In a dynamic and increasingly complex business environment in perpetual motion, decisions are
often ineffective because companies lack data and analytics systems that can reflect the “business
moment”. The business moment can be defined as a transient opportunity for people, data, and
businesses to work together in unique, situationally adaptive ways to create increased value.
Optimizing the potential of a “business moment” calls for an emphasis on continuous intelligence
where technology and processes trigger immediate actions from real-time, analytics-ready data.
This in turn enables the business to feed off continuous, high-frequency, intuitive insights derived
from all data. For data to reflect the “reality” of the business moment, it needs to be real-time and
hyper-contextual, oriented with a correct business view and a use-case-centric focus. The COVID-
19 pandemic has revealed several examples of this requirement. Every organization had analytics-
ready data, but most of them struggled with answering urgent business questions to make necessary
changes in a timely manner. The organizations needed access to and visibility into real-time changes
while also defining new business logic. They also needed the ability to conduct data calculations
that reflected and analyzed the business reality of the moment. This requires real-time data
integration with fast, iterative transformation and continuous ingestion capabilities. The ability to
utilize and analyze data is going to be one of the biggest drivers of business in the future. Given
how data is a representation of information or performance of a business at a specific moment in
time, analyzing it can reveal a wealth of insights. These allow for a greater understanding of what
is happening in the business and how to improve its performance by taking awareness of internal
and external factors that could impact it. Any business that can effectively analyze its data will have
a massive advantage over its competitors as it will be able to adapt to changing trends and customer
demands faster than those that do not have the same insights. Therefore, Business Intelligence
systems of the future will provide answers, not just data. Insights and data stories will be
incorporated in the right format, for the specific user and timing — to support or explain the business
responses provided.

CHOOSE ONLY ONE of organization sector below:

Assume that the chosen sectors want to hire your team (3 - 4 people) to develop Decision Support
Digital dashboard for their ‘business moment’. Towards this project, your team should think
