Module 3: Charting

I) Introduction
1) Creating a Chart
Command line (research bar)  write “Euro chart” or directly “EUR=CHT”  chart will
appear.
 Chart includes comprehensive real time and historical data.
 More than 100 analysis tools (types)
 Display charts by day hours, minutes, or ticks in real time !
 Customize the chart for your specific needs
 Company chart view give you the instant comparison charts to compare companies
performance against another.
a. Technical analysis:
Click on the “plus”  fundamentals  Price ratios  Price/book value per share (to add
another curve containing the book value/share on the graph)
b. Workflow chart apps
 Instant charting for key data (yield curves or economic indicators)
c. Instant analysis with Eikon Answers
 For example you can write “ facebook net income”  a graph will shows
II) Chart App: getting started
1) Add analysis and trendline to a chart
 Chart app give you the power to create technical analysis quickly and easy
 More than 100 analysis tool (type)
 Opening adidas chart
o Write adidas chart in the command line (research bar)  select ADSGn DE
o The chart app opens an OHLC bar chart with 20 day Simple moving average
and a volume chart
 The analysis displayed may be different depending on the type of instrument (stock,
bond, …)
 Changing the chart range: click on range  select 1 year, day month ..
 Adding another analysis to the chart: click in the analysis drowpdown  select
bollinger band analysis
o Fixing parameters of Bollinger band: double click on one band  a table will
open  put your parameters  ok
 Adding a trendline: click on the trendline dropdown  click on “line” for example
 click on your start point and drag it to the end point on the chart.
o put the mouse on the trend line, it will give you the date and the price in that
point.
o You can move the trend line
o Copy the trendline: CTRL + drag the trendline

2) Adding a chart to your favorite
 Open favorite chart:
o click “the star icon” on the top right  open favorite  select a view or a
chart. Or press the keyboard shortcut you already choose (if exist)
 Adding a chart to favorite:
o right click in the chart  file  favorite  add to favorite  give the name
 add
 If you want to add a keyboard shortcut: click on key board options 
press a combination of keys with your keyboard  ok  add
 If you can to replace the chart opening with the analysis you choose:
click “use active symbol”  ok  add
3) Using the chart App
 History of instruments can go back to a max of 20 years.
 Open a chart:
o 1) Write in the command “EUR=CHT” and Euro OLCH chart with 14 simple
moving average will open
o 2) click in Eikon Menu  my apps  chart
 You can trade directly from the chart if you have a trading add-on.
o Click trade menu on the top right to activate the trading add-on  select the
add-on
 Default range of a chart = 6 months
 Splitting a chart:
o Click the app menu at the top right  split mode  choose an option (e.g.
1by4)  the screen is split to 4 chart of the same instrument (weekly, daily,
hourly, 5min)
 Hover on the chart  it will tells you the: bid, date, open, high, low, last (closing)
4) Customize a chart App quickly
 You can customize the chart by using “inplace editing”
 Change the start date:
o Click on the start date in the top right of the chart  you can pick a date from
the dropdown calendar
 Change the chart type:
o Click “bar OHLC”  choose a chart type (candlestick,…)
 Access to chart data:
o Click the “data window icon” (next to range, top left)  click “show all” to
view the chart data for all days included in the chart  a list of dates will
show  dates are listed with the most recent date at the top  click the
arrow in the “date column” to view the oldest dates at the top
 Edit the scale and the range of the chart
o Double click on the Y-axis
 Edit the chart properties and X-axis
o Double click on the X-axis

 You can specify a start and end date, restrict the display to a specific
period,
 Customizing the chart legend:
o click the “modify chart properties” icon (next to range, at the top left) OR,
double click the chart background  a “chart property window” will appear
 you can: customize the chart background, set display options including
gridlines, period markers, background color. But we will customize only the
legend  click on “legend tab”  choose the legend format( long format,
short format, very short), display (single line, list style, horizontal), and other
options, percentage change, net changes  click ok
5) Customize chart properties
 Chart properties:
o click the “modify chart properties” icon (at the top left) OR, double click the
chart background  a “chart property window” will appear  click on
gridline tab to design the chart background, set gridline options, set a
calendar divider
 Zebra striping dialog allow you to display alternate intervals in
different colors or shades, making it easier to identify time periods on
the chart.
 Dividers dialog allow you to display vertical dividing lines in 3 different
colors at yearly, monthly, or weekly intervals. You can set color for
each interval, thicker line, line style (dotted,…)
 Adding Alternate colors for date periods
o Write click on the “candle stick”  select analysis properties menu  select
the “display tab”  use the display dialog to change any aspect of the
analysis  you can change the “placement body”, “line color and width” 
you can make your customization as a default setting.  open the coloring
dropdown  select “alternating” instead of “single”  you can use the
palettes to change the alternating colors  ok  the chart is now displaying
each calendar month in alternate color.
6) Exporting data to Excel
 Exporting data to excel:
o Click and hold the series (chart)  drag it to MS excel window and drop it
there  data will appear
 Exporting data as a CSV file:
o Click the “data window” (next to range, at the top left) icon the toolbar 
click “show all” to view the chart data for all dates  Click “export”  save
 Exporting the chart image
o right click on the chart  edit  copy image  past in word for example
7) Linking a quote list with a chart app
 Linking the quote list with the chart app in order to view the quote in the chart
when clicking on it:

o Open a workspace including a chart app and a quote list  click the “link
icon” from the quote list (top left) and select a color  do the same for the
Chart app (click on the link icon in the top left and choose the same color) 
now when you click on an instrument from the quote list, it will appear in the
chart !
o If you will add a trendline (for example) it will be associated (linked) with the
instrument ! (each time you click on the instrument it will display on the chart
with the trendline)
8) Sharing Apps using Eikon Messenger
 You can insert any app (chart, quote, quote list, or news story) from the desktop into
a message conversation
 Sharing App in messenger:
o Open the “app options menu” (top right in toolbar)  click send  send to
 write the recipient’s name  auto suggest return a set of potential
matches  add a message  click share.
 If recipient have Thomson Reuters eikon it will be able to open the
original app.
 Other users will receive a snapshot of the data.
9) Using relative performance analysis
 Relative performance comparison to compare the performance of 2 instruments
within a defined timeframe.
 Relative performance of 2 instruments:
o Click the analysis icon  insert analysis  Select relative performance 
insert the codes of the instruments you want to compare  specify the date
 add  close.
o If the relative performance value > 1  the first instrument is outperforming
the second instrument.
 You can use relative performance on more than 2 instruments (stocks, sectors,…)
III) Financial Chart App
1) About the financial chart
 Combines real time and historical data with many analysis tools
 Compare, analyze, and provide deeper insight into investment performance.
 Use autoload mode to compare related indices, sectors, peers
o You can select absolute price, rebasing, relative performance,
 Chart fundamentals and estimates data
 Gain valuable insight into drivers of price movements
 Show unadjusted data
 Export data to excel
 Link apps together.
10) Adding additional instruments and Customize the chart.
 You can add 7 additional instruments to the absolute Price Chart

o If the price series is “rebasing”, “relative performance”, and “total return” the
charts limit is 20 instruments
 Adding a instrument:
o Type Renault for example in the “instruments” box at the right  ok
 Remove an instrument:
o Click on the “bin” icon
 Return your chart to the original view:
o Click on the “reset” icon (to right of the app)
 Quickly compare instruments
o Select the companies you want to compare (peers) from the “auto load”
mode
 Display historical prices in a table below the chart
o Select “historical price change” from the toolbar  a table will show below
the chart.
 Exporting the historical prices table:
o Click on “export data” icon from toolbar
 Hiding the chart after opening the historical price change
o Click on the “up arrow” close the “historical price change”
o Click on the down arrow to show the chart again
 Show the chart data into a table format
o Click on the “data table” icon from the toolbar
o Check the different periods using the tabs in the window
o Return to the chart view: click the icon again
 Changing the price series
o The menu is at your left  click to dropdown  select, rebasing, relative,
total return ….
 You can change other options from the “option menu” at the left.
11) Charting fundamental and estimate data
 Overlay fundamentals and estimate data:
o Click the “add fundamentals and estimates” icon in the toolbar  data item
library opens  let’s add revenue, gross profit, and basic EPS (you can search
from the categories in the left or you search to find the item)  select the
required financial period on the right  add  add the other items  click
ok !
 To hide the navigation panel click the icon on the top left.
 Refine the Y-axis decimal places:
o Click the “decimals icon” in the tool bar
 Change the y-axis placement
o Icon on the right in the toolbar
12) Introducing the financial chart
 Financial chart helps you analyze the company’s performance
 Open financial chart app:
o Click the eikon menu  charting  financial chart

o OR, type the command “CHTF”  enter !
o Default display: daily with 6months period
 You can change the period at the bottom of the chart
 Use the sliders at the bottom of the char to specify your own period
 You can customize the periods you want to show at the bottom (by
clicking on the gear icon)
 You can use the calendar icon to select dates (down at your right)
o Move your mouse on the char to view the closing price on each day
 Changing the chart type:
o Click on the arrow next the field where you enter the instrument  the
default option is “line chart”  change it to candle stick for example
 Showing a statistic window:
o Click on the arrow next the field where you enter the instrument  statistic
 a statistic window appears! It contains the last price, today’s net change,
high, low, average, % change… (you can resize the window)
 You can change the rolling period while selecting “overlay percent change” in the
“Price series” menu
 You can use financial chart to track historical data or the current data movement
13) Using the toolbar
 You can customize the financial chart by using the icons of the toolbar (on the right)
 Add an analysis to your chart
o Click to the drop down arrow next to the “daily” (add analysis icon)  select
the analysis you want to add
 You can also choose which analysis appear in your favorite menu
o Click the add analysis icon  the orange stars shows that the analysis tool is
included in your favorite list
 To remove the analysis from your favorite click on the stars icon
 Adding an event marker:
o Click the third icon in the toolbar  select earnings  the marker will appear
on the chart.  click on the marker for details
 Deleting an event marker:
o Click on the third icon  remove event marker
 Adding a trendline:
o Click the trendline icon  select the trendline you want to add  click on the
starting point and drag to add the trendline
 Copy the trendline:
o write click on the trendline in the chart  duplicate tool  drag the line to
the desired position
 Extend the trendline to left/right
o write click on the trendline in the chart  extend left/right drag the line to
the desired position
 Remove the trendline
o Click on the trendline  delete key from your keyboard

 Delete multiple trendlines
o Click on the trendline icon from the toolbar  click on delete all trend lines
 Extend the X-axis
o Click the icon at the bottom of the chart to extend the X-axis
o Double click to reset the range
 Save the chart:
o Click the save icon from toolbar to save the chart  give it a name  ok
 Open a saved chart:
o Click the open saved chart icon in the toolbar  select your chart
 Exporting the chart data into an Excel file:
o Click export chart data icon  Select the range  give a name to the file 
save the file
 Exporting the chart image as image/PDF:
o Click the dropdown menu next to export chart data icon  choose export as
image or pdf  done
 Copy the chart image:
o Select the copy image icon

Module 4: Collaborating

1) Bilateral chat:
 Regulations prohibit the use of multilateral chat  Thomson Reuters made the
“bilateral chat”
 Available on Eikon messenger.
 Thomson Reuters screens every user and assign it to a company of in the TR database
 Only members from 1 or 2 companies can participate in a bilateral chat if there are
no compliances that prohibit that.
o If members of a bilateral chat want to add a third party (e.g. user of another
company) into the conversation  it’s prohibited
 Creating a bilateral chat (between collogues or contacts from different firms):
o Click on “creating a bilateral chat” icon (down left)  give the chat a name 
select the users from the contact list (on the left)  Click “create”
 Creating new group:
o Click on creating a group contact (down left)  give it a name  select the
contacts you want to add to the group  create group
 Add contact to a conversation:
o Drag and drop the contact in the conversation:  the contact will receive a
pop-up msg to join the chat or they can automatically be added if they are
trusted existing contacts
 Deleting a contact from a conversation:
o Write click on the contact (from the group participants menu on the right) 
Select kick contact from the dropdown
 Bilateral chat appear in a new contact roaster

 Regular Eikon Features are available in messenger: buzz (grab the attention of the
contact), chatroom alert, personal alerts, merged rooms in bilateral chat
 Eikon messenger can be bought as a separated product.
14) Eikon Messenger Key features.
 The combination of connectivity across networks and ease of use makes Eikon
Messenger the essential financial communication tool
 Accessing Messenger:
o You can open Messenger from the Eikon Desktop by clicking on the Speech
bubble.
o Access messenger via your start menu (windows) (if you are a standalone
user)
 Searching contacts:
o You can search contact in the Eikon messenger using the search bar
(directory) on the left (more than 3000 professional contact)
 Adding a contact to your contact list:
o Write click on the contact name  click on “add to my contacts”
o Click on “add new contact” icon (down left)  type the email of the contact
 select the network the contact is using from the dropdown menu (MSN,
AOL, ..)  click add contact
 Using the directory (top left):
o You can search contacts, chatrooms, bilateral chats, editorial community
forums you have permission to join
 Updating the profile (to make it easy to find you)
o Click on “your name” icon (on the right)  a dropdown menu will open 
select “my profile”  change your job title, bio, headline, work history,
education, primary focus, asset classes, geographical focus, contact
information (email, mobile, country,..)  submit
 Use Messenger on your mobile device:
o Download the Eikon App from your app store  sign-in with your ID and
Password  use the “contact sync” feature to add your contacts list.
 View the contact profile (details):
o Write click the contact name
 Rename a contact:
o Write click the contact name  Click the pen icon  type in the new name
 Rename a group:
o Write click on the group name  rename group
 Set personal alerts for your contacts:
o Write click the contact name  Click the alert icon  choose the options you
want (playing a sound when you get a msg, highlight messages in a certain
color)
 See conversation history:
o Click on “ view conversation history” in the message window

 You can change the message window to a pop-up window (flexible workspace) to
move the chat whenever you want on the screen
 Sending same Message to many contacts at the same time:
o Click on the quick blast Feature  send quick blast
 You can share files, screenshots, send emoticons
 Use support:
o Click on the support icon on the top right in Eikon messenger  type your
message and send it to start a live conversation
o Standalone users can access support via contact us

Module 5: Social Sentiment

1) The news discovery App


 Provides news sentiments analysis
 Open the App
o Click on Eikon menu  News & Research  News discovery (before clicking
you can add it to “My apps” with the “+” icon  the news discovery
dashboard opens with the latest news related to your Pf and lists
o If the app is in “my apps” click on the Eikon menu  My apps  News
discovery  the news discovery dashboard opens with the latest news
related to your Pf and lists
 The most recently use PF is displayed
 Change the PF or list:
o Click on the dropdown arrow and select from the options
 The charts you see on the news discovery dashboard are previous spark charts
o Under each headline (title) you have a preview of the article/story (including
the first 200 characters)
o Click the headline to view the story, charts, and recent related tweets
 Return to the home page (news discovery dashboard)
o Click on the “home” button on the top left.
 Change the dates:
o Click one of the dates at the bottom or chose from calendar in the down right
 Changing the date range (monthly, weekly, daily)
o Down on the right
 Return to today’s news
o Click “today” icon (down right)
 Open News Sentiment:
o Select sentiments from the dropdown list (top left next to home button) 
Sentiment shows the first 100 stories based on your search criteria
o Major news is the default display
o Sentiments with green color: positive scores
o Sentiments with red color: negative scores
 News sentiment analysis is available for stories in “english” with valid RICS or
commodity codes

 Sentiments are created using computational linguistics (they detect the positive
and negative language in a story to assign a score for it)
 Adding the story to your briefcase:
o Click on the headline  click the “add to briefcase” icon on the top right
 View the items in the briefcase
o Make sure you are on the dashboard  click the briefcase icon on the top
right  click the chevron (a shape of double arrow)  items list will appear
 you can filter the items and view only the one you added from the news
discovery dashboard.
 Research in the news:
o Write the word in the search bar located in the toolbar
15) Social Media Monitor App
 Displays and analyze the sentiments of social media for specific companies, ETFs, and
commodity contracts
 Open the App:
o Write social media monitor in the search bar
o OR, Eikon menu  my apps  social media
a. First view (barchart +purple line)
 The App open displaying a bar chart
o Grey bars: show social volume, OR the number of times the instrument has
been mentioned
o Purple line on the chart: gives you the overall sentiment on a specific day
o You can add the price chart to view it with the bars and the purple line and
see how the purple line is correlated with the price
o You can additional instrument to the chart from the list above the chart for
comparaison
 Tweeter Feeds
o Located on the left of the screen
o You can filter the TWEETS by “top” or “latest”
 Top filter: display tweets of users with a cloud score >= 70
d. Bar chart view:
o You can select other chart views from above the chart buttons (at the left)
o Bar chart: allows you to view the balance of positive and negative tweets for
multiple different securities all at the same time. You can add other
instruments from above the chart to compare.
o Put the mouse on a “bar” to view the “top tweets” from that time period
 View the related tweets:
o Click a segment of the chart to view the related tweets
 Import the RICs of your choice:
o Click on “Portfolios and list” at the top left  use the arrow keys to select the
securities you want to import

o You can import up to 50 RICs at one time
 Changing the time frame:
o Drag the date bar at the bottom of the chart to change the timeframe
e. Bubble chart:
o Offers 3 layers of analysis in one visual
o the color of the bubble indicates the overall sentiment for each selected
stock
 Grey: neutral
 Green: positive sentiment
 Red: negative sentiment
o Size of the bubble represent the volume of tweets
o Y-axis: %change in price
o X-axis: trading volume
 Zoom in on a cluster:
o Click and drag
f. Heat Map view
 Offers a view of the top 50 most talked about stocks, commodities and ETFs
 The size of the square represents the number of mentions for a specific RIC in the
defined time period
 The color bar: Represents the % change in the price
 View the price chart and the corresponding tweets of an instrument:
o Click on the square and it will be displayed

Module 6: Analyzing Data MS Office

1) Data retrieval in Microsoft Office


 Formula builder:
o Open the Thomson Reuters onglet in Excel  click on “Build formula” 
write the instrument name in the instrument case  select data items 
choose how you want to return the data from the other options  use quick
functions to process data within the function  insert
o OR, you can use the in cell formula builder
 Retrieve a list of peers
o After using the formula builder, a list of peers will be shown on the right
 Formula tools onglet
o Let you change the layout of existing functions without re-opening an
interface
 Creating functions in two clicks with “speed data”
 Capture real time tick data
 PF and list are available in Excel and on mobile also!
 Use RSEARCH to return a dynamic list of instruments matching a specified criteria
o This function replicates the advanced search screen in the desktop

 Use the TR aggregate function to summarize and calculate data for a collection of
stocks.
 For stocks: use the flexible equity screener to create screens (in Thomson Reuters
onglet)
 Search for delisted companies
 Open options:
o Click on options under (gear icon) under the TR onglet in excel
o You can activate apps from the menu “Apps” (optionsapps)

17) Apps and Productivity tools
 The MS add-in has its own app library
 Open the App library:
o TR onglet  options  Apps  enable the apps you want
 Activate Keyboards shortcuts
o TR onglet  utilities  shortcuts
 You can visualize cross-worksheets using the tree view
 Auto color:
o TR onglet  auto color  you can highlight all the content you can click
through in blue (example)
 You can apply rules to the worksheet or just some cells
 You can create a pitchbook in powerpoint
 You can link charts and table to your PPT presentation
 You can use the deals tools in Excel

20) Activate the Excel Add-in
 If not activates, and you write a function it will not work (#name #value)
 Activate the Add-in:
o Close excel  click on start (windows)  open TR folder  click on TR Excel
 the TR menu (onglet) appears !  activated  click on TR onglet  click
on “offline” icon to complete the connection
o OR, Click on file (office)  options  add-ins  open the manage dropdown
menu  select COM add-ins  click “Go”  Check the TR Add-in  Ok 
activated !  click on TR onglet  click on “offline” icon to complete the
connection
