Break-out Title/Topic: Plagiarism Resources Time

I will use Mentimeter to gauge student’s moods/mental health at the start of the
session and respond accordingly. We are at a difficult point in the semester where
motivation is running low and deadlines are stacking up, and hopefully together we

My mentees will learn about plagiarism, know what to do for the upcoming
assignment, and engage with the topic of Party politics.

Introduction: (what information do mentees need from me before activity?)
I will be going over Plagiarism and how to avoid it, reiterating what Dr. Collier talked
about in her videos. I will explain common examples of plagiarism and how to avoid
them. I will be emphasizing this as it was stressed by Dr. Collier and is very easy to
fall prey to. Also, I will explain once again what proper academic sources are and Screensharing
where to find them, since some students had issues with that on their assignment. google scholar,
(For example, news articles not counting as an academic source). I will also go over Leddy Library 10

Activity: (How will I get my mentees involved in this break-out?)
I will create hypothetical situations of plagiarism and ask students to correct the
situation, as well as include some examples where plagiarism didn’t occur. Students
will be able to connect these with their own behaviors and learn where they can
improve upon citing their work.

Next, we will use Microsoft teams, and I will ask students to describe what Party 5
Politics mean to them through a collaborative word cloud using Mentimeter. Since min,
we are discussing that in class right now, it will help reinforce their learning. mentimeter 5 min

Overall, students now know how to approach the upcoming assignment, how to find
academic sources, and learned methods to avoid plagiarism.
