ABOUT THE INSTITUTION
Faculty Development
New Horizon College of Engineering is part of the New
Horizon Educational Institution which was established in
1970; the college was established in 2001 and celebrating
its Golden Jubilee. It is located in the heart of the IT capital
of India, Bangalore. First Institution to achieve the rare
honor of having filed many Patents in 3 Years in India and
in the World. Accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade.
 All UG programs are accredited by the National
Board of Accreditation (NBA).
 Ranked 6th among the Top Private Engineering
Colleges in Bangalore and 10th place in Karnataka
as per NIRF Ranking 2020, announced by the
Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India.
 Awarded as the "Best Institution towards Industry
Focus Education Delivery for Full Employability".
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering
at New Horizon College of Engineering (NHCE) was
established in the year 2001-2002 with an intake of 40
students. The Department increased to 120 students in the
year 2010-2011. The Department was accredited by NBA
in the year 2008 for a period of 3 years (2008-2011). The
Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering got its
Research Centre status in the year 2010-2011 from
Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belagavi.
THEME OF THE PROGRAMME
The world is facing two major crises: depletion of energy
resources and global warming. Solutions to both the crises
are interlinked. According to energy experts, India needs
5.2 % growth of power generation every year for the next
twenty years in order to achieve the proposed 8% GDP
growth rate of economy. Given the current status of our
country’s energy dilemma, India has to find an abundant
supply of energy that is clean and safe for the
environment, and economical enough to fuel a growing
economy. The obvious long-term solution is solar as
renewable energy option. Sun, being the basic source of

energy for creating all the existing sources of power
(Conventional and Non-Conventional) emits enormous
amount of energy every day and fraction of that falls on on
the earth surface out of that, a fraction of falling energy is
utilized for energy generation using direct conversion Research Challenges in

methods. These methods are now receiving increased
attention and under concentrated development. With the
advent of semi-conductor technology, direct generation of
electricity from solar energy has become possible using RCRET20
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) effect. But Silicon solar cells are
limited in use on commercial basis because of high 14th – 20th September 2020
production cost and low power level. To address this issue,
currently the research activities are going on in the area of Organized By
solar photovoltaic cells such as boosting solar cell
conversion efficiencies, lowering the cost of solar cells,
modules and systems and improving the reliability of PV
Components and systems. This workshop will focus on
various aspects of solar cells viz. Silicon solar cells, GaAS
Solar cells, thin film cells (CdTe, CIGS), Dye sensitized
solar cells. Participants will get an exposure to different
types of solar cell and get an industry specific perspective STB66131
of emerging new technologies in solar cells.
