For your reference: The cirumcentre is one of the triangle’s point of

concurrency formed by the intersection of the triangle’s three perpendicular
bisectors.

To be written neatly in ruled part of the record.

Date: 28-Oct-2020
Activity-7

• Objective: To locate the circumcentre of:

1. An acute angled triangle.

2. A right-angled triangle.

3. An obtuse-angled triangle.

• Pre-requisite knowledge:

1. Drawing the perpendicular bisector of a line segment by paper folding method.

2. Definition of circumcentre of a triangle.

3. Definition of concurrent point.

• Materials required:

➢ Glazed papers

➢ A pair of scissors
➢ Fevicol

➢ Sketch pens

➢ Geometry box

• Procedure:

1. Cut out an acute-angled ΔABC on a coloured glazed paper.

2. Paste it on a sheet of white paper.

3. Fold ΔABC such that the vertex B falls on the vertex A. Press the two parts together so that a
straight crease is obtained.

4. Unfold the paper and mark the crease so obtained by a dotted line l.

The dotted line l is the perpendicular bisector of the side AB of ΔABC.

5. Repeat the above actions (3) and (iv) to find the perpendicular bisectors of the sides BC and
CA.

6. Repeat the above steps (1) to (5) for a right-angled triangle and an obtuse-angled triangle.

• Observations:

In each case, the perpendicular bisectors of the three sides of any ΔABC are concurrent (here,
the point O is the circumcentre of ΔABC).

• Conclusion:

The location of the circumcentre

1. is inside the triangle for an acute-angled triangle.

2. is on the hypotenuse of the triangle for a right-angled triangle.

3. is outside the triangle for an obtuse-angled triangle.

Do these activities and paste it in the unruled part of the record.
