For your reference: The incentre is one of the triangle’s points of concurrency
formed by the intersection of the triangle’s three angle bisectors.

To be written neatly in ruled part of the record.

Activity-6

• Objective: To obtain the incentre of different types of triangles.

• Pre-requisite knowledge:

(i) Finding the angle bisector by paper folding method.

(ii) Concept of acute angle, right-angled and obtuse-angled triangles.

• Materials required:

➢ White sheets of paper

➢ Glazed papers

➢ A pair of scissors

➢ Fevicol

➢ Sketch pens

➢ Geometry box
• Procedure:

1. Cut out an acute-angled ΔABC on a coloured glazed paper.

2. Paste ΔABC on a sheet of white paper.

3. Fold ΔABC through the vertex A such that the side AB falls on the side AC and press the
folded paper in such a manner that a straight crease is formed.

4. Unfold the paper and mark this fold by a dotted line.

This dotted line is the bisector of ∟A.

5. Repeat the above folding and unfolding action with vertices B and C to find bisectors of ∟B
and that of ∟C respectively.

6. Repeat the steps (1) to (5) for a right-angled triangle as well as for an obtuse-angled triangle.

• Observations:

1. In each case, the bisectors of the three angles of any ΔABC are concurrent.

2. The point of concurrence of the bisectors of the three angles lie in the interior of the triangle in
each case.

• Conclusion:

For all types of triangles, the point I (the incentre) of the ΔABC lies inside the triangle.
Do these activities and paste it in the unruled part of the record.
