Q5. Carefully read the problems and work out the answers to these division problems by
rounding the answers. Use the method of your choice. Show your working in the space given
below.

a) Ms Smith split her class into groups of 3. She has 32 children in her class. How many groups
of 3 were there?

Answer: Ms. Smith divided her class into 11 groups (10 groups of 3 children and 1 group of 2

children ).
b) There were 37 children going to the match in cars. 4 children could fit in each car. How many
cars were needed for all?

Answer: They needed 10 cars in all. (9r1 is the answer hence round up to 10)

c) Jordan has a bottle of medicine. It holds 55ml. How many spoonful will he get out of it if each
spoon holds 4ml?

Answer: He will get 13 spoonsful of medicine with 3 ml leftover.

d) Katie had 230 leaflets to deliver. She bundled them in groups of 7. How many bundles of 7
did she have? How many were left over?

Answer: She had 32 bundles of 7 with 6 leaflets leftover.
