Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expanded his cabinet with the inclusion of eight ministers on 2nd
June’19. The Bihar Legislative Assembly elections were last held in October -November, 2015 which
has seen the largest voter turnout since 2000. One might expect to get questions from this topic, es-
pecially in the Polity section and General Awareness across Central Government exams like SSC.
Knowing about the Cabinet ministers would also help the aspirants who are preparing for the Bihar
PSC and other competitive exams. The 2015 elections saw the Mahagatbandhan, which consisted of
the Rashtriya Janata Dal RJD), Janata Dal (United), and Indian National Congress (INC) securing a
total of 178 seats. While the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) secured a total of 58 seats.

Nitish Kumar resigned from his post of Chief Minister on 26th July 2017 over disagreements with the
alliance partner RJD. Hours later, after his resignation, Nitish Kumar decided to join the NDA alli-
ance and was born the BJP- JD (U) alliance. Ousting RJD from the Government BJP and Janta Dal
(United) took over power by securing the required majority.

Nitish Kumar has sworn in as the Chief Minister yet again in August 2017. This led to a major shuffle
in the Cabinet of Ministers of Bihar. The Sixth Cabinet of Nitish Kumar initially included nineteen
members which included the Chief Minister himself from the Janata Dal (U) and fourteen ministers

BJP launched the election campaign for 2020 on 7th June’20, for Bihar in a virtual rally, which was
helmed by the Home Minister, Amit Shah in which he addressed the “ Bihar Jansamvad Rally”. Bihar
is scheduled to go to Assembly polls in October-November 2020.

We looked at the Cabinet Ministers of Bihar through the table above and also talked in brief about the
