Dear Sir/Madam,

Having learnt about the Google STEP program from LinkedIn, I’ve been fervently wanting to apply for
this training program. I think that I would be able to gain a significant hands-on experience from the
program mentors which will allow me to expand my skills and broaden my horizons into the world of
innovation and creativity.

I’m currently dual majoring in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering from North South
University in Bangladesh. I have a hobby and passion for tinkering which I exhibit through the
construction of personal projects and such. Ever since I was in high school, I was mentored by my
personal physics tutor who was studying at my University at the time and is now getting his PhD
from the National University of Singapore’s Center for Quantum Technologies. I engaged in
professional research at a young age and I learned a lot which led me to securing a position at the
prestigious engineering program at New York University, NY, which is ranked 26th by Times Higher
Education.

During this quarantine, I have taken my abilities and expanded my knowledge to a much higher level
than before. I have been designing and prototyping an 8-bit computer by watching Ben Eater on
YouTube through which I have learnt about CPU control logic and bus architecture and constructed
clock circuits, registers, the ALU, the RAM module, program counter, etc. I have also been playing
around with Arduino and Raspberry Pie from which I have built simple Bluetooth-controlled, voice-
controlled, hand gesture-based, line-following and obstacle-avoiding robot cars. I have also worked
on home automation projects and built power supplies, prototyped multimeter circuits and such.
Raspberry Pie led me to learning Bash and all I could about Linux OS and being introduced to the
world of PCB hardware design.

In addition to the aforementioned, I have completed a 30-days Masterclass on MATLAB and Simulink
from a workshop provided by an engineering educational firm in India where I learnt about TI-DSP
programming, PID controllers and vector-controlled induction motors and to name a few. In
addition to that, in the two months of my time at University before the Coronavirus struck, I
attended a Codeathon at my University and was selected to be the team representative where I am
representing Bangladesh at the Kibo Robot Programming Challenge, organized by JAXA where I am
having to operate Astrobee with friends, NASA's new free-flying robotic system, and stop an air
leakage in the ISS by pointing a laser. As a result, I believe that I am competent in the programming
languages of C and Java. I have professional experience in the office environment due to my
Summer internship at the USAID NGO Population Council. I have also built a COVID-19 management
system using C with friends for a University project and I make video games using Unreal Engine for
fun. I’ve been programming in Python and HTML5 since high school and I’m currently learning CSS,
JavaScript and SQL. I’m also a freelance content writer and graphic designer, and I create and sell
my landscape paintings in my free time.

Yours faithfully,

Tajrina Promela,
