FIRE SUPPRESSION STANDPIPES

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes equipment, devices, and appurtenances for a
complete standpipe system.
B. The system to be provided shall be designed, installed, tested and set to
work in accordance with NFPA 14, NFPA13, NFPA 24 and the requirements
of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense Authority
C. Related Sections include but are not necessarily limited to:
1. Division 00 - Bidding Requirements, Contract Forms, and Conditions of
the Contract.
2. Division 01 - General Requirements.
3. Division 23
4. Division 13 - Special Construction
5. Divisions 26, 27 and 28
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. Comply with provisions of Division 01.
B. Undertake full hydraulic calculations as required by NFPA14 to verify or add
to any pipe sizes indicated on the drawings, and submit together with shop
drawings of entire system for approval by the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense
Authority and the appointed client’s representative.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Fire protection equipment and installation shall be in accordance with
recommendations of Employer's Underwriter and approved by the Local
Authority.
B. Equipment and installation to meet requirements of NFPA No. 14, Standard
for the Installation of Standpipe and Hose Systems.
C. Design and installation to be undertaken by a specialist sprinkler installing
company conversant with NFPA installations and acceptable to the approving
authority

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install fire department valves at 1524mm above floor.
B. Install Hose cabinets 1200mm above FFL or at a height indicated on the
architects drawings or to the manufactures recommendation.
C. During construction, make 1 standpipe outlet available on each floor without
delay, for fire department use.
D. At hose stations where the static pressure exceeds 689kPa, or the
pressures indicated within NFPA14, provide pressure-reducing valve,
complete with pressure relief valve and piped discharge connected to the
sprinkler test drain stack, to prevent pressure on hose from exceeding
621kPa.
E. Test standpipe system in accordance with NFPA No. 14.
F. Ensure system is thoroughly flushed out of all debris prior to setting to work.
C. Complete and submit to the Engineer the appropriate health and safety
method statements and risk assessments.
G. Ensure the consistent use of mnemonics to identify all BMS components and
devices.
H. Ensure regular database and configuration backups are made throughout all
stages of the commissioning process.
I. Ensure attendance of all appropriate and responsible parties for interface pre-
commissioning tests (interface between BMS and other plant items/systems).
