Welcome to the “Young Italy-India Fashion Lab”, a fashion contest organized by the
Embassy of Italy in cooperation with Amity School of Fashion Technology, FAD
International Academy, Istituto Marangoni, J D Institute, National Institute of Fashion
Technology, and Pearl Academy.

One of our most important daily tasks is to promote excellences from Italy in India and
investing on smart young talents that will lead the future is what we believe in.
This year we will host the first edition of “KnotsOfInspiration”, an event that will showcase
the experiences of Fashion Industry Professionals from Italy inspired by India and the views
of Indian Fashion Designers with strong connections to Italy.

For this occasion, we partnered with the major fashion schools of India in an exciting
contest open to students and alumni, the “Young Italy-India Fashion Lab”, in which we
are asking you to create a unique capsule collection inspired by Italy. So let your
imagination fly and get inspired by Italian creativity of arts, lifestyle & food. Pick what
inspires you the most and embody it in a capsule collection.

If your work gets selected, you stand a chance of flying to Italy for Milan Fashion Week
AW20 and being involved in activities exclusively curated by Pearl Academy or of winning
scholarships at Istituto Marangoni and FAD International Academy. You will also be invited
to display the best pieces at “KnotsOfInspiration/Education” on 08th November 2019 at the
Embassy of Italy Cultural Center.
Before starting, kindly take a look at the guidelines and make sure you meet the
requirements. We’re looking forward to your creations!

 TERMS AND CONDITIONS

A) Introduction
The “Young Italy-India Fashion Lab” is a contest organized by the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi in
cooperation with Amity School of Fashion Technology, FAD International Academy, Istituto Marangoni, J D
Institute, National Institute of Fashion Technology and Pearl Academy. The contest is free and open to
students and alumni (whose graduation year is between 2019 and 2016 included) of the participating
institutes.

The prizes will go to the teams that create a capsule collection on the theme #InspiredByItaly

Each Institute/School/College will select the best team for each category. Only the two selected teams (one
per category) will have the opportunity to go to the second round. The selection within the Institutes will
be carried out in cooperation with a representative of the Embassy of Italy and a member of the media
partner team.

Please follow the requirements below thoroughly and be aware that, if they are not met, the form and the
portfolio are incomplete, deadlines not honored, the entire team will be disqualified.

B) Team
Each team can have a maximum of 2 members (either two current students or two alumni). This means
that also single contestants can enroll.

In case you are selected in the first round and eligible to pass to the second round, please note that it is
mandatory to have a valid passport for the entire year 2020 in order to apply for the contest. In case the
passport release is in process, kindly mention the application number and request date. For the graduate
students, graduation year should be between 2019 and 2016 included. The Team members should belong
to the same Institute (in case the team is of two members).

C) How to participate

1. FIRST ROUND: PORTFOLIO TO BE PRESENTED

- To access the first round, please submit the Contest Form duly filled in and signed by both the
team members (Annex 1)
- Fill up a short write up on the inspiration at the foundations of the collection along with a vision
statement and strengths of the creations. Add a few notes on a prospective marketing and sales
strategy inclusive of target market/buyer and selling channels where the collection could turn out
to be very successful. The document should follow the format given in Annex 2 and should count
no more than 500 words in total. It should be typed and not handwritten.
- Present the Mood Board
- Present the final illustration for each creation. Illustrations can be drawn by hand or software
enhanced
- Produce and present the Final Outfits/Creations – following the minimum requirement: 03 women
outfits (Sizes: Ht. 5’9, Bust 32/33, Waist 26, Hips 36, Shoe 39) OR 03 men outfits (Sizes: Ht.6’1,
Chest 40, Waist 31/32, Hips 39 Shoe: 9). More pieces could be added to the collection, up to a total

 of max. 06 outfits and 03 accessories. The collection can include both women and men outfits with
a minimum requirement of 03 pieces/collection.

The entire portfolio should be submitted to the kind attention of Prof Dr Purva Khurana
(associatedean.industry@nift.ac.in) on or before 31st October 2019.

2. SECOND ROUND: PORTFOLIO TO BE PRESENTED

- Hand over the Contest Form duly filled in and signed by both the team members
- Carry Photocopy of passport relevant pages / passport application form
- Submit the same write-up presented at the first round
- Present the Mood Board
- Present the final illustration for each creation. Illustrations can be drawn by hand or software
enhanced
- Present the final Outfits/Creations – minimum requirement: 03 women outfits (Sizes: Ht. 5’9, Bust
32/33, Waist 26, Hips 36, Shoe 39) OR 03 men outfits (Sizes: Ht.6’1, Chest 40, Waist 31/32, Hips 39
Shoe: 9).More pieces could be added to the collection, up to a total of maximum 06 outfits and 03
accessories. The collection can include both women and men outfits with a minimum requirement
of 03 pieces/collection.

The teams shortlisted during the first round are kindly requested to be present at The Embassy of Italy
(Chanakyapuri, New Delhi – entry from gate 01 on Satya Marg) on 07th November from 4 pm onwards for
the final fitting on models. Only outfits are required. Form, Mood Board, Illustrations and Write-up will be
required for the final pitch taking place the following day.

The teams shortlisted during the first round are kindly requested to be present at the Embassy of Italy
(Chanakyapuri, New Delhi – entry from gate 01 on Satya Marg) on 08th November from 1.00 pm onwards
for the final pitch.

 D) Awards
The prizes will go to the best 2 teams of the STUDENTS category and the best 2 teams of the ALUMNI
category. The final selection will take place before the #KnotsOfInspiration/Education on 08th November
2019 at the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi.

STUDENTS AWARDS

1) The 1st PRIZE will include

- 2 Scholarships for Short Courses @ Istituto Marangoni Mumbai (one for each team member). The
course will have a duration of 3 weeks and will take place in the month of April 2020. The fee
waiver is of 2100 euro/scholarship, flights and accommodation in town will not be granted.
- Online and Digital coverage by the leading Fashion and Life style Magazine Elle India
- Exhibit of the best pieces on mannequins at the Embassy of Italy Cultural Center on the occasion of
the “#KnotsOfInspiration/Education” on 08th November 2019.

2) The 2nd PRIZE will include

- Experience curated by Pearl Academy during Milan Fashion Week AW20 which will include
attending the shows, working backstage, taking part to exclusive masterclasses and participating in
networking events. Flight tickets and visa fee will be taken care by the Embassy of Italy in New
Delhi and accommodation in town will be on Pearl Academy.
- Online and Digital coverage by the leading Fashion and Life style Magazine Elle India
- Exhibit of the best pieces on mannequins at the Embassy of Italy Cultural Center on the occasion of
the “#KnotsOfInspiration/Education” on 08th November 2019.

ALUMNI AWARDS

1) The 1st PRIZE will include

- 01 Scholarship for Short Course @ Istituto Marangoni in Milano and 01 Scholarship for Short
Course @ Istituto Marangoni in Florence. The course will have a duration of 03 weeks and will take
place in the month of January 2020 or end of July 2020. The winning team should decide who will
attend the program in Florence and who will attend the one in Milan. The fee waiver is of 4100
Euro/scholarship, flights and visa fee will be sponsored by the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi.
- Online and Digital coverage by the leading Fashion and Life style Magazine Elle India
- Exhibit of the best pieces on mannequins at the Embassy of Italy Cultural Center on the occasion of
the “#KnotsOfInspiration/Education” on 08th November 2019.

2) The 2nd PRIZE will include

- One Scholarship to study at FAD India in Mumbai and One Scholarship to study at FAD India in Pune
on any professional course that ranges between 6 Months to 1 Year. The value of the scholarship
for FAD India ranges from 2470 to 5990 euro. Flights and accommodation are not granted.
- Online and Digital coverage by the leading Fashion and Life style Magazine Elle India

E) JURY
The jury for the first round will be composed of the School Board/School Contest Committee/School
Contest Referents + Representative from the Embassy of Italy in New Delhi + Representative from Media
Partner.
The jury for the second round will be composed by:
- His Excellency the Ambassador of Italy to India
- Fashion Designer from India
- Elle India
The Jury will select the winner on 08th November 2019 afternoon.

SELECTION CRITERIA:
Innovative interpretation of the theme, strength of the collection to influence and create new trends,
craftsmanship of finished outfits.

TO BE NOTED: The Embassy of Italy will not be responsible of any damage the collection might incur in
during exhibit phase, show time or transport from one location to another. The information contained in
the Contest Form will be treated as sensitive data and not shared with public. The Collections, once at the
Embassy, will be kept in a safe place and not showed to outsiders not involved in the project.

6. 5e/6e: If you are a graduate student, kindly mention GY before the graduation year.
5f/6f: in case valid passport number is not available, kindly provide the application number of
