Moreno signed Ordinance No.

8695 or Manila LGBTQI Protection Ordinance of 2020

which “protects the rights of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgenders, queers and
intersex (LGBTQ) in the city of Manila against any and all forms of discrimination
solely on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, expression.

As from what I have noticed in the Ordinance No. 8695 or the Manila LGBTQI
Protection Ordinance of 2020 that was signed by Manila Mayor Isko Moreno on
October 29, there are two provisions that are related to the sensitization of language
towards gender equality. It is very much needed so, as discrimination and verbal
abuse against members of the LGBTQI community are still prevalent today that
bringing hate crime like this into the court may help, at least, to stop and to prevent,
to uplift and to civilize. However, I believe along with this interference, there should
also be an increase in acceptance by educating the masses about SOGIE and
normalizing LGBTQ+ identities and this can be granted through implementation of
programs and projects of LGUs and barangays, and may this action be supported by
the government to entirely stop the discrimination. I truly hope for the day where
every human life and human right is valued and may this response lead to a greater
step towards this dream.
