EVG DESCRIPTION

mainly consists of a keypad, microphone,
display unit, and ports to connect external
devices, electronic rechargeable battery,
audio output unit i.e. speakers or earphones,
memory/data transferring unit.
The display unit is to
display the text information such as the
options provided for the data recorded in the
memory about a visit during data partition
and other text information such as addresses
etc.
The ports are to interface the
device with external devices such as data
transferring devices. The external device is
to transfer the data contents which are

already recorded on some secondary storage
devices such as compact disks, DVDs, pen
drives and also on a computer using the
USB ports. The secondary storage devices
are driven by a microcontroller based
circuitry and the contents are driven into and
out of the electronic visitor’s guide with
help of these ports. As the Electronic
visitor’s guide is made to easily interface
with external memory transfer device, the
size of the Electronic visitor’s guide will be
reduced to greater extent.

will be driven by an Electronic rechargeable
battery which can be recharged as and when
it is required to do so.

speakers or earphones depending on the user
requirement.

INTERNAL CIRCUIT DIAGRAM OF EVG

The block diagram of EVG is as shown in figure2.

The figure2 shows audio input section, text interfacing unit, external memory and data
input section, audio output section, text transferring unit.

 The audio input section is to handle
the voice input given to the device through a
micro phone. The input signal is amplified
and the noise free signal is given to
sampling circuit consisting of sample and
hold circuits and analog to digital converter
and the digital data is stored in the memory.
The Audio output section gives the
audio output. Based on the selected option,
data from memory which is in digital form is
given to memory I/o interfacing unit which
will be converted into analog form and are
further given to a audio Amplifier which
will amplify these signals and gives the
Audio output. The Audio output can be
heard through ear phones or through a stereo
system.
The text input section is to give text
input to the device and to give the text data
which is to be stored in memory. It includes
circuitry to control the volume of output,
navigational keys to scroll down through the
options, and keypad consisting of
alphanumeric.
The text output section is to give
the text output. Text contents are moved
from the memory to the text display handler
circuit which will be displayed by the
display unit.
The memory used here includes
both RAM and ROM. The ROM is to hold
the embedded software required for the
device functioning. The RAM is to store the
data related to the particular visit. The
contents of memory include partitioned data
related to audio and also text. The memory
distribution is explained in the preceding
discussion.
The digital data transfer module is
to transfer the contents of available on a
secondary device such as a CD, DVD, Pen
drive, Personal computer or in some other
form is transferred to the memory of the
Electronic Visitors guide.
MEMORY DISRIBUTION OF EVG
The memory distribution of EVG is
shown in figure3. It consists of Embedded
software required for the device functioning.
It will not be visible and accessible to user
by any means as it is stored in read protected
mode. Read only memory such as EEPROM
can be used to store this software. The voice
recorder IC is chosen for instance. The
memory further consists of the data related
to particular location. This space can be used
by the user to record data through voice or
can be used to store data from an external
device. Some portion of the memory is
dedicated to user to record his queries which
can be clarified further.

DEVICE WORKING
The data related to a particular
visit is collected in advance and is suitably
edited and recorded into the device with
some sweet voice. Suitable options are
provided and data partitioning is done at the
time of recording. The same kind of data
recording can be done on some secondary
memory device such as CD, DVD.
This secondary storage devices
are driven by a micro controller based data
transfer device and the data contents are
transferred. In case if the contents are
available in a personal computer then it can
be interfaced through the USB ports. This
will transfer the contents of the secondary
device into the memory of the Electronic
Visitors guide.
Now the Electronic Visitors
guide is ready with the data related to a
particular visit. The visitor can scroll
through the options provided which will be
displayed on the display unit and the
corresponding audio will be given out
through the audio output device such as
earphones.
If something is not interesting
to the visitor then he can simply skip that
one and go for other option. Like wise the
device will assist the user or visitor during
his visit to a particular place with out the
need for having a human guide who will
charge an enormous amount of money.
CASE STUDY
Let us suppose consider a visitor
going for a south tour covering Bangalore,
Mysore, Ooty, Chennai etc. The recorded
CD consisting of the explanation about the
tour will be loaded into the Electronic
Visitors guide. If the visitor doesn’t have his
own Electronic Visitor’s Guide then the
local vendors can give it for rent with details
related to that particular location stored in it.
The options provided for the
data stored in the memory can be described
as shown in figure 4 below.
As shown in figure4 the contents will be
displayed. Depending on whether he is in
Bangalore or in Mysore, he will select that
particular option, and can listen to the
contents. If he does not want to listen to
some thing, then he can skip those contents.
FEASIBILITY OF THE
DEVICE USAGE
In this modern society, human life
is speedy and nervous. We want to get relief
from these tensions and will probably plan
some tour or sight seeing. The traveling
difficulties involved and several other
difficulties arising with the unfamiliarity of
the visitor about that place will cause
inconvenience to the visitor. Also during his
actual visit, the visitor does not tend to read
the scripts and descriptions inscribed on
those portraits and the other things offered
for display at that place.

Instead of that, the same data recorded in
advance in some audio form with some
sweet voice will serve the purpose. It also
removes the privacy problems of the visitor
arising with the intervention of a human
guide. That’s why the Electronic Visitor’s
Guide will be very much useful to the user.
ADVANTAGES
1. Portable: This device, consisting of
limited circuitry is a portable device.
It will be of the size of a cell phone and
can be easily operated by even a layman
also.
2. Economically Feasible: The cost which
is around 1800 is negligible when compared
to the fee to be given to a professional guide.
3. Guides Physical condition matters:
Depending on the guide’s physical
condition, Sometimes he may explain
beautifully and some times he may not
perform unto his full worth. But this

friendly to the user and gives credible
information to the user.
4. Password encryption: The contents of
the Electronic Visitor’s guide can be
protected from others modifying them
through a password. This will prevent the
visitors from editing the original data
presented by an expert. Usage of
microcontroller provides security to data &
programs.
5. Entertaining: Listening to audio with
some good background music provided will
be entertaining to the visitor.
