MUSIC
OVERVIEW
Mindanao has a very rich vocal and instrument music tradition. Many cultures and traditions of
the different tribes are still sustained in different functions. One of which is the vocal music like chants
and lullabies. In instrumental music, it reflects the spiritual and natural life of the Filipino Muslim. It is
characterized by rituals and practices, as part of their everyday experiences. These are made more fervent
and vibrant by the music that accompanies them.

DEFINITION OF TERMS
DRONE- a continuous low dull humming sound.
GONG- a circular metal platelike percussion instrument, usually having a turned-down rim.
LUTE- plucked string instrument with a neck and a deep round back enclosing a hollow cavity,
usually with a sound hole or opening in the body
PALABUNIBUNYAN ENSEMBLE-most widely performed instruments of the Maguindanaon
are those that comprise an ensemble of loud instruments .

TIME ALLOTMENT:

INTRODUCTION
The most widely performed instruments of the Maguindanaon are those that comprise an ensemble of
loud instruments called Palabunibunyan. Majority of these instruments are gongs and boss. All the
instruments of the ensemble, with the exception of the Agung that is played exclusively by men. The
Palabunibunyan is for merrymaking and is therefore not played during occurrences of death, calamities,
and the fasting month Ramadhan.

concepts and instrument of the music of the island Mindanao of the Philioppines . Keep in mind that most new

for the first time: You are instantly immersed in a different culture and surrounded by people who speak
an unusual language or follow unfamiliar customs. This new experience could be either very exciting or
quite unbearable depending on your perspective. If you were not prepared for this journey, your naive
responses and actions might bring you embarrassment or instill the anger of others. Worst of all, you
would get very little from a potentially rewarding experience.

Overview
Prior to colonization of the Spaniards, Filipinos already had their own rich artistic and cultural traditions.
These are evident in the arts and crafts featured in this unit. In the previous module you have explored the
Filipinos sense of artistry and rich culture of Luzon and Visayas regions. You will learn to compare and
analyze the uniqueness of the Yakans fabric and their love for colors which are evident in their face make
up and body ornamentation with that Luzon’s and Visayas. This lesson will also provide you information
and activities that will deepen your appreciation and understanding of Mindanao imaginative and
crdeative intelligence in the field of visual and cultural arts.

and decorative weaves. Art highlights the daily living of people in Mindanao. The Filipinos have their
own culture particularly in the field of visual arts. They have created unique designs in pots, jars, textiles,
and jewelries.

known in recreational circle.

personal health, it is not only just about a healthy body but also a sound mental health. It is the condition
where our body, as well as our mind, is functioning properly. good mental health allows us to live longer,
achieve more, have a better family life, more friends, and contribute to safer and more productive society.

Introduction
Have you ever felt stressed and under pressure as an adolescent? Life nowadays is getting complex and
demands certain coping skills and capabilities from teenagers. These pressure cannot be avoided and
worrying about them is normal. However, worrying too much and prolonged feeling of sadness,
hopelessness, and worthlessness could be sign of a mental health problem.
