Origin: Why It Is Celebrated?
All Saints' Day is a feast instituted to honor each and every one of the saints,
whether they are known or not, for their work in spreading God's message.
This celebration is also an opportunity to live the vocation to holiness that all
Christians have.
Origin
It began in the fourth century because of the large number of martyrs of the
Christian church that remained after the persecution for their praise of God.
The day of the Dead, is a Mexican celebration to honor the dead that dates back
to pre-Hispanic times and that after the arrival of the Spaniards was mixed with
the Catholic celebration of the faithful departed.
They also use costumes from La Catrina a representation originally from Mexico
created by Jose Posada, symbolizing the criticism of those who, despite having
indigenous blood, prevented to be European. He is also the Mexican
personification of death.
Among the traditions of the day of the dead is the creation of altars where food,
fruit, drinks, toys and photos deceased relatives are placed in order to receive
them.
In the same way, rugs made of earth or sawdust with coloring and glitter are
made to welcome and pay tribute to the dead.
