Discuss how the Eight Cs for Team Building can improve organizational productivity in
working teams.
According to the famous quote of Henry Ford “Coming together is a
beginning. Keeping together is progress. Working together is success.” but
how do we begin? how will one team progress? How will one team work?
being knowledgeable about The Eight C's for Team Building will be beneficial
for team's to improve, progress and achieve its mission with great success.
These are the Eight C's and how they can improve organizational productivity
in working teams.
The first C is clear expectations, it is essential that team members have clear
expectations, they must be informed of what is the expected performance
coming from them and for them to understand the reason why the team is
created. For example, in a company you belong to the designing team of
course from the name of it you already have a background of what you will be
doing but not on what you are about to do or is there certain deadlines and
what designs? Knowing that, you will now be able to know what effort would
you put fort on the team. In clearing expectations all of the members
questions must be answered or even before they ask or even without them
asking you must already provide the answers. So having clear expectations
reduces confusion and this increases the chance of one team being
successful knowing that they are on the right track.
Following the first C is commitment, it allows a team to meet its mission.
Members should be eager to participate, they should engage in all of the
things the team must do because it leads to a better productivity and makes
the team become a motivated work force. You cannot just go on with what
you are doing if you don't love what you are doing. So without the willingness,
the commitment, your team will be far from achieving your team's mission.
Keep your members motivated and commited.
The third one of the eight C's is competence. To accomplish a task and a
mission the team was built for, members should have the knowledge, skills
and capabilities, the resources and strategies needed for such task. For
instance your member already knows how to use the computer but the team
need someone with great skill in programing, So you should provide new
knowledge and skills for them to really help the team on what it will be doing
and for the team to have competence.
Next to competence is control, this is ensuring that a team's resources are
being used effectively and efficiently to keep the team on track. Control must
be there on a team, you have to lead your team with suitable power and
authority to guide and manage them, having control ensures discipline
among the team.
In the fifth C we have collaboration, team members must have unity, they
must get along with other members of the team. It is important that in a
team there is collaboration because it get things done, shared ideas become
one and teams work together. They understand the essence of team work
and that because they work effectively and cooperatively.
Third from the last is communication. It is very important that there is
communication in a team because clearing their expectations, controlling
them requires proper communication. Members should open up about ideas
and managers should always be open to listen, give feedbacks from one
another and distinct opinions, ideas, outlook and perspective be always
welcome. Having good communication also lessens conflicts in a team and
issues are easily solved which makes the team smooth sailing.
Second to the last is creativity, teams should value creative thinking, unique
solutions and new ideas because it will help develop more wonderful plans
and achieve mission dynamically. Creativity improves the team, this opens up
each others capabilities which give way of uncovering variety of skills
necessary for innovation.
And lastly is coordination, same as to collaboration a team won't progress
without it. Collaboration is with team members but coordination is working
with other teams. It works the same as to the collaboration, but the difference
here is that you will be working with other team. Coordination is a bridge
which helps assist the team to obtain what they need for success, it is both
beneficial to every end of the brige.
All of those C's are highly recommended, each of them play an important role
in building better teams and achieving team mission. The eight C's are
connected to one another, having one of them helps develop and strengthen
another C and so on and so forth, its a cycle. Just like a human body we have
different parts inorder for us to work, live and function in everyday life same
with the eight C's your team will be the body and the eight C's as your body
parts to help you begin, to keep your team going, to progress, to work
together and to take you to greater success.
