instruction, it’s informative and insightful because the author attach some frameworks then
give the briefly discussion.

Summary :

The author concludes some methods and TBLT frameworks in the article. The article is
talking about TBLT frameworks in grammar instruction. There are four frameworks by
Jiuhan Huang’s Framework (2010), C. J. Thompson & N. T. Millington’s Framework (2012),
M. B. Crivos & P. L. Luchini’s Framework (2012), Willliam Littlewood’s Framework
(2000). The author argues that Task-based Language Teaching the best technique to applied
in grammar instruction because the technique available by combining both explicit and
implicit grammar teaching and focusing on both meaning and form in one’s teaching practice.

Analysis :

In my opinion Task-based Language Teaching is not the best one in grammar instruction.
This is in according to VanPatten stated that processing instruction is a particular approach to
teaching grammar that is based on how learners interpret and process input for meaning.
VanPatten (2002) has argued that since the aim of this approach is “to assist the learner in
making form– meaning connections during IP [input processing]; it is more appropriate to
view it as a type of focus on form”. In his work, VanPatten has outlined an input processing
model that has tried to show how learner process input in their memory and how they derive
intake from input while their focus is on meaning.

VanPatten’s model contains the following four main principles:

1. Learners process input for meaning before they process it for form
2. For learners to process form that is not meaningful, they must be able to process
informational or communicative content at no or little cost to attention
3. Learners possess a default strategy that as signs the role of agent (or subject) to the first
noun (phrase) they encounter in a sentence/utterance. This is called the first noun strategy
4. Learners first process elements in sentence/utterance initial position
