Course Objectives: This course will provide students concepts on the drawings of different curves like straight line, parabola, ellipse etc. After
completion of this course, students will be able read and interpret engineering drawings and will be capable of using various instruments involved in
drawings

Pre-requisites: Concepts Mathematics (especially Trigonometry and Geometry).

Module I: LETTERING, DIMENSIONING & GEOMETRICAL CONSTRUCTION

Introduction to engineering drawing; Importance of Engineering drawing; Instruments used in drawing; 15
Standards for letter writing; What is dimensioning, types of dimensioning; Basics terms used for dimensioning;
Construction of basic geometrical figures like pentagon, hexagon, conic sections by different methods

Module II: SCALES
Descriptors/Topics
What is scale; Importance of Scale; Basic Requirements for scale: Representative fraction, Length of scale; Types of 15

Module III : ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION OF POINTS & LINES


Descriptors/Topics
Theory of Projection: Types of projection; Orthographic projection of points and lines in different angles of
projection; Different cases of line : Line parallel to both planes; line perpendicular to one plane parallel to other; Line 15
inclined to one plane; line inclined to both plane; Procedure of finding true length from short length; Traces of lines.

Module IV : PROJECTION OF PLANES & SOLIDS

Projection of Planes: Orthographic projection of planes like pentagon, hexagon, circle, rectangle etc. in 1st angle and
3rd angle projection; Different Cases for planes: Plane parallel to one plane perpendicular to other; plane inclined to one

plane perpendicular to other; Plane inclined to both planes.
Projection of Solids: Projection of polyhedral (Prism, pyramid) and solids of revolution (cone, cylinder) in 1st angle
and 3rd angle. Different cases for solids: Axis of solid parallel to both planes; Axis inclined to one plane parallel to
other; Axis inclined to both planes.
Module V : SECTION & DEVELOPMENT OF SURFACE OF SOLIDS

Section of Solids: Drawing sectional views and true shape of section for different solids; 20

Development of Surfaces : Drawing developments of different solids by parallel line and radial line development
method.
Module VI: ISOMETRIC PROJECTION & AUTO-CAD

Computer Aided Drafting (CAD): Introduction, benefit, software's basic commands of drafting entities like line, circle,

Course Learning Outcomes:

On completion of the course the student will be able to:

1. State knowledge on the fundamentals of engineering drawing and units.

2. Describe proficiency with a metric and engineer scales.

3. Demonstrate the proper use of drawing equipment.

4. Experiment to develop and/or comprehend a simple engineering drawing.

5. Experiment to draw in both First and Third angle orthographic projections

6. Design the projections in AUTO-CAD

7. Evaluate standards in engineering drawing practice and engineering graphics.

The course pedagogy will include E- tutorial, E- content, E- discussion and E- assessment, lectures, concept quizzes, tutorials, lectures, problem solving
on drawing sheets in classroom and drawing assignments. It also includes application of software knowledge to understand the concept of drawings in
projection.

Single stroke, vertical and inclined capital letters, numerals, types of conventional lines, types of dimensioning

Sheet 2 – Dimensioning & Types of Lines

Types of conventional lines, Types of dimensioning with examples in drawing

Sheet 3 - Geometrical Constructions I

Construction of basic geometrical figures like pentagon, hexagon, ellipse by different methods.

Sheet 4 - Geometrical Constructions II

Construction of Parabola & hyperbola by different methods

Sheet 5- Scales

Construction of plain scale, diagonal scale and scale of chord.

Sheet 6- Projection of Points

Orthographic projection of points in all four angles
