Visit to the Federal Agricultural Institute in Sarajevo, 01/07/2020

PHYTO BiH Coordinator visited the Federal Agricultural Institute in Sarajevo on 1st
July to discuss with the Director and staff of the Institute about the implementation
of future activities related to the delivery of equipment for the lab and organization
of training and technical assistance in BiH and Italy. In that occasion, some
laboratory equipment was delivered, and installation and testing were carried out.

Opening of the laboratory at the Agricultural Institute of Republika

Srpska, 30/09/2020
On Wednesday, 30th September 2020, new reconstructed, adapted, and modernized
laboratory space at the Agricultural Institute of Republika Srpska, Banja Luka was
opened by H.E. Nicola Minasi, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in BiH and
Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water management of Republika Srpska Boris
Pašalić. Both of them acknowledged the great importance of the reconstruction of
laboratory space which will facilitate the accreditation process and alignment of the
laboratory to the international phytosanitary standards (EPPO, ISO 17025, and
ISTA).

Forestry, 02/10/2020
PHYTO BiH in the visit to the Federal
Ministry of Agriculture, Water
Management and Forestry. On Friday,
2nd October 2020, Mladen Todorovic,
coordinator of the PHYTO BiH project
met in Sarajevo Semsudin Dedic, Minister
of Agriculture, Water Management and
Forestry of Federation of BiH. Mr.
Todorovic presented the achievements of
the project and plan for the continuation
of activities. Minister Dedic expressed the
satisfaction for a successful
implementation of the project by CIHEAM
Bari and recognized the importance of
continuous support of the Italian
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and
International Cooperation and the Italian
Agency for Development Cooperation on
the road of alignment of the
phytosanitary sector with the EU
standards.

Visit to the Federal Agricultural Institute in Sarajevo and the

Federal Agro Mediterranean Institute in Mostar, 05-06/10/2020
PHYTO BiH Coordinator visited the Federal Agricultural Institute in Sarajevo on 5th
October and the Federal Agro Mediterranean Institute in Mostar on 6th October to
discuss with the Directors and staff of both Institutes about the implementation of
future activities and the way forward in the pandemics time. On this occasion, the
staff of the Institutes presented the laboratory equipment and expressed their gratitude
to the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), to the Italian Ministry of
Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and to the Mediterranean Agronomic
Institute of Bari for this valuable donation.

1th International Agricultural Symposium "Agroysm 2020"

08-09/10/2020
The special session of the Phyto BiH Project at the “Agrosym 2020”. The University
of East Sarajevo - Faculty of Agriculture (Bosnia and Herzegovina), University of
Belgrade - Faculty of Agriculture (Serbia), and CIHEAM - Mediterranean Agronomic
Institute of Bari (Italy) organized, in collaboration with the PHYTO BiH project, the
11th International Agricultural Symposium "Agrosym 2020” from 08 to 09 October
2020. A special session of the PHYTO BiH project was dedicated to the celebration of
the International Year of Plant Health in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Moreover, a
round table was carried out focusing on the production, inspection, and certification
of seed material in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Week of the Italian cuisine in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 27/11/2020

Embassy of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, 27th Novembar 2020,
organized, in collaboration with CIHEAM Bari and Phyto BiH project, a Webinar on
“Sustainable agriculture as a strategy for rural development: Italian experiences and
their replicability in Bosnia and Herzegovina". The event was held via Zoom within
the "Week of the Italian cuisine in Bosnia and Herzegovina” that is organized
traditionally every year by the Embassy of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Online traning courses, 19/11-17/12/2020

From 19th of November to 17th December, the PHYTO BiH project has organized
several online training courses on various topics with the participation of experts
from Italy and from BiH beneficiary institutions including Federal Agricultural
Institute in Sarajevo, Agro-Mediterranean Institute in Mostar, Agricultural Institute
of Republika Srpska in Banja Luka and Faculty of Agriculture, Phytosanitary
Laboratory in Banja Luka. These courses were devoted to training and technical
assistance for the staff of phytosanitary laboratories in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The
following online courses were held:
16/11/2020- Seed quality determination
02-04/12/2020 – Training course on Plant Viruses Diagnostics
10-11/12/2020 – Training course on Alternaria as a worldwide emerging pathogen:
focus on Alternaria alternata forma specialis mali (A. mali)
15/12/2020 – Training course on Quarantine insects - plant disease vectors
16/12/2020 – Training course on Nematode morphology belonging to the genera
Longidorus, Xiphinema and Pratylenchus
17/12/2020 – Training course on Technics for molecular Identification of
nematodes
Moreover, two Workshops – courses were organized (1st December and 9th December)
for the phytosanitary inspectors from Bosnia and Herzegovina. These events focused
on the development of an information system for the phytosanitary sector in BiH.
The first prototype of an information system was presented by Italian experts and
delivered to the inspectors from BiH for testing and feedback. New online activities
are foreseen for 2021.
