Firstly, being a student abroad can give you the benefits of gaining a great growth
experience. Moreover, you have the opportunity to learn new things about other cultures and to
interact with people that have different backgrounds. These experiences can make you think
more mature and increase your confidence and self-esteem, because you have a new perspective
of the world around you and an opportunity to appreciate social differences.
Secondly, studying abroad will help you improve employment opportunities. For
employers, a student who has studied abroad is self-motivated and able to cope with different
situations and problems. Furthermore, the experience of living and staying in a foreign country
and also thinking and speaking in a different language will stand out compared to other job
seekers.
On the other hand, one of the disadvantages is the language barrier and culture shock. It
is important to know the level of fluency that you have in that specific language because that is
your first step in making a good impression and also to make friends. Cultural shock can lead
unfortunately to anxiety and homesickness which can affect your performances as a student.
Another point is that studying abroad is expensive. Starting with travel expenses, tuition,
accommodation, books and supplies and the overall cost of living can add an extra amount of
stress, and working and studying at the same time is not a reliable solution.
In conclusion, being a student in a foreign country can help find many opportunities such
as studying and working in an international environment, but also disadvantages that can make
your life hard. But, if this option is something of a life dream, and if it is something that you
really want, go for it, it can be a ticket for a very interesting life.
