1. Why study Rizal’s Life and Works?


 There are two reasons why it is important to study and learn about the life and the
works of Dr. Jose Rizal. First, because it is mandated by a law entitled “Rizal Law”.
This aims to give awareness to Filipinos about the ideas and contributions of Rizal
to the Filipino nationalism. Second, because of the lessons contained within the
course itself. This aims to connect the ideals and teachings of Rizal to the
contemporary society. It also aims that we appreciate and deeply understand what
Rizal fought for. Finally, this aims to foster the development of Filipinos in all
aspect of their citizenship.
2. What is the significance to your course?
 As an education student, studying the Life and Works of Rizal will help me to be a
better educator in the future. Rizal is an example of a person who valued his
education a lot and reaped much from it. I hope I will be able to imitate how Rizal
sees the value of education and through it, may I become a good teacher to my
students.
3. What is Republic Act no. 1425 all about?
 Republic Act No. 1425 is also known as Rizal Law. It was approved on June 12,
1956, mandating all public and private institutions including state colleges and
universities to include Dr. Jose Rizal’s life, works, and writings as a course across
programs. It was written by Sen. Jose P. Laurel with a House of Representatives
comprised version HB No. 5561 which came out on April 19, 1956 and Senate Bill
no. 428 on April 3, 1956 by then Committee on Education, led by Cong. Jacobo
Gonzales and Sen. Claro Recto known as Noli-Fili Bill.
