Answer all the Four Questions.

1. For the amplier shown below, nd the midband overall gain AM and the upper 3-dB frequency fH , for
Rsig = 100 kΩ, RG = 4.7 MΩ, RS = 1.5 kΩ, RD = RL = 15 kΩ, gm = 1 mA/V, ro = 150 kΩ, Cgs = 1 pF,
and Cgd = 0.4 pF. (Let CC1 = CC2 = CS = 470 µF; Do not get confused between Rsig and RS ) [15]

2. For the CE amplier shown below, let R1 = 27 kΩ, R2 = 15 kΩ, RE = 1.2 kΩ, RC = 2.2 kΩ. The transistor
has β = 100 and VA = 100 V. DC bias current owing thorough the collector terminal IC = 1.92 mA. If
the amplier operates between a source for which Rsig = 10 kΩ and a load RL = 2 kΩ, answer the following:
(Assume VT = 25 mV and take Early eect into consideration) [15]
(a) Draw the small-signal model of the given amplier (use hybrid-π model for the BJT)
(b) Find Rin
(c) Find the voltage gain vo /vsig
(d) Find the current gain io /ii

3. In a particular current mirror, such as the one shown below, all transistors have Vt = 0.6 V, µn Cox =
160 µA/V2 , L = 1 µm and VA = 10 V. Widths W1 = W4 = 4 µm and W2 = W3 = 40 µm. The reference
current IREF is 20 µA. Then answer the following: (Assume that both Q2 and Q3 are in saturation mode)

(a) What are the voltages at the gates of Q1 , Q2 , Q3 and Q4 with reference to the ground?
(b) Find IO .
(c) What are the values of gm and ro of Q2 and Q3 ?
(d) What is the output resistance, RO , of the current mirror ?

4. For the circuit shown below, calculate the values IC , IE , and IB . Let V + = 24 V, V − = −24 V, RC = 7.5 kΩ,
RE = 6.2 kΩ, R1 = 2 MΩ, R2 = 1.2 MΩ, and β = 99. (Assume that the BJT is in active mode with
VBE = 0.65 V) [15]
Hint: For obtaining Thevenin's equivalent circuit for the highlighted (boxed) section, assume that the current
owing through RC is approximately equal to IC .
