Lab 4: Getting Started

Lab 4.1: Log in to the NSM
Objective:
Log in to the NSM for the first time.

Lab Information:
Use the information in the table as a guideline for the lab.

Virtual Systems NSPMGR

Files Demo-run.bat on the desktop

Login Credentials Machine IP Address Username Password

PDC 10.10.10.200 MCAFEE\jsmith mcafee123!

NSPMGR 10.10.10.207 MCAFEE\jsmith mcafee123!

Scenario The NSM software installation is complete. To verify the success of the installation, log
in to the NSM using a supported browser. Because this is the initial login, you should
use the credentials for the default administrative account:
• Login ID: admin
• Password: admin123
Important: Before you begin, run the demo-run.bat on the desktop if it is not
already running. This is necessary to populate the Dashboard monitors and
Analysis pages with data. Close any pop-up windows.

Refer to the steps below to complete the lab.

1 Log in to the NSM

1 1 Make sure your logged in to NSPMGR virtual machine.

1 2 On the desktop of your NSPMGR system, double click on the demo-run.bat, if it is not
already running. This is necessary to populate the Dashboard Monitors and Analysis pages
with data.

1 3 Open the Firefox browser from your NSPMGR virtual machine. The NSM login page displays.

1 4 Log in to the NSM with below credentials:


• Login ID: admin
• Password: admin123
The Dashboard page displays, upon a successful login. Remain on the Dashboards page.

Lab 4.2: Customize the Dashboard

Task: Step: Instructions:

2 Customize the Dashboard

Scenario: Change the Automatic Refresh for monitors to 10 minutes. Make sure the column layout is 3
columns. Make sure all operational monitors display. Collapse all monitors.
Refer to the steps below to complete the lab.

2 1 Make sure you are logged in to the NSM as the default administrator (admin/admin123).
Note: Firefox browser is recommended to use for NSM.

2 2 If not running already, double click the demo-run.bat.

2 3 Make sure you are on the Dashboard page. If not, click the Dashboard icon on the menu
bar.

2 4 Beneath the menu bar in the top right corner of the page, notice the range filter is set to Last
7 days. On the drop-down list, change the range to Last 5 minutes.

2 5 To the right of the range drop-drop down list, click refresh icon to refresh the page.

To the right of the refresh icon, click icon. The Dashboard Settings dialog opens.

2 7 From the Monitors drop down list, select Operational.


Note: Some of the monitors are selected by default. Check/tick any monitors that are not
selected.

2 8 From the Monitors drop-down list, select Security.

selected.

2 9 From the Automatic Refresh drop-down list, select 10 minutes.

2 10 From the Layout drop-down list, select 3 Columns.

2 11 Click OK. You are returned to the Dashboards page.

Use Collapse icon to collapse the monitors.

2 13 Remain on the Dashboard page.
