You have watched a TV debate about which charity organisations should receive funding

from the government. You have made the notes below:

Write an essay discussing two of the charities in your notes. You should also explain which
charity is more important for the government to give money to, giving reasons in support of
your answer.
You may, if you wish, make use of the opinions expressed in the discussion, but you should
use your own words as far as possible.

A matter of considerable controversy at present is the issue of whether in the many begging
letters that pop unsolicited trough our mailboxes daily or in the televised appeals for charities,
headed by celebrities trying to tug out at our heart-strings, everywhere we turn nowadays we
see charities beseeching the public for money. This generated a great deal of heated debate,
with health charities’ supporters maintaining that it is imperative to receive fundings from the
government, whilst opponents claim that the sports and recreation charities are unjustifiably
less worth.

First and foremost, if sports and recreation charities have a valid claim to government
funding, they would help reduce stress and keep people fit, positive and healthy. Moreover,
not only provide a community local point but also enrich the lives of many. However, health
is thought to be a far greater priority.

On the other hand, healthcare is becoming heavily burdened by an increasingly aged
population, necessitating greater funding for charities as the prevalence of the proportional
increase of Alzheimer’s and cancer with ageing people. Thus, many now are reliant from
health charities. Only in this way should we have an obligation to fund these charities, in
return.

Lastly, it may be concluded that the government must focus its attention on ways to direct
with high priority fundings towards health charities.
